Wheat help!

I have been feeding my son rice cereal for almost 2 weeks and I was going to move onto oatmeal and barley and my question is about wheat.

I know you should hold off on wheat products, but what does that exactly mean, I have been googling for a little bit because my gerber oatmeal says it "oat flour (contains wheat) and another cereal I got says "organic whole grain spelt wheat flour"

What the F*ck is right lol??! Are they referring to literally WHEAT like a piece of toast or wheat germ??! I dont think what I got is bad because its the "next step" but it sounds like it could be wrong as well.

If anyone knows what "wheat" products/ingredients I need to avoid or delay introducing please let me know im irritated lol.

Re: Wheat help!

  • I don't think it means the oatmeal cereal by gerber.  I know many people use it unless you know that there is actually an allergy.

  • Some oatmeal products do contain wheat so you will just want to watch your son for a reaction.  Most of the time the Gerber oatmeal is fine but Liam did have a reaction to it (watery BM's, excessive gas, refusal to eat, drop in weight, and his first diaper rash ever) so we are going to be careful when we do finally introduce wheat and we are holding off on oatmeal for the time being.  We're hoping that he'll be fine with it when he's older.

If you are concerned you could find a baby oatmeal that is certified "wheat free" or "gluten free".  I believe Earth's Best brand is wheat free (no mention of wheat in the ingredients).  That's the kind we are planning on trying when we introduce it again.
