This past Monday while at work I started having contractions. I ignored them for most of the day writing them off as Braxton Hicks but around lunch time really started to feel a lot of discomfort (like I was getting my period, menstrual-like cramping and back ache) and started timing the contractions and paying more attention. When I realized they were coming every two minutes for over a half hour I called the doc and was asked to come in to the hospital to get monitored. I continued to have them and was give turbutaline (sp?) injections and after 6 hours was released with a prescription for the turbutaline in pill form. There was no changes in my cervix to show any dialation or softening. The morning after I continued to have contractions even when on the medication so went back to the doc and was put on temporary bedrest til they can check me again monday.
If I am having contractions that aren't dialating my cervix, should I really even be worried about it? They go away when lying down but come back any time I get up and move around. The doc says something is irritating my uterus making it "crabby" and to see if a week of rest stops the irritation and contractions.
Anyone else had any experiences like this? It is all sort of confusing to me because I feel perfectly fine when staying inactive but it scares me that every time I am up the contractions come back.
Re: Sort of confused, wondering if anyone has experienced this...
I had them all the time. They were dialating my cervix, some hurt, some did not. I would never be that bothered by them until they hooked me up to the monitor in L&D. Then I'd get yet another cervix check.
some of us just have crabby uteri (uteruses? hahah)
I started going to L&D all the time for contrax and ended up having ds 5 weeks early from pre-eclampsia.
try not to worry.
I was having cramps like that last night after standing for awhile and cooking in a hot kitchen. I drinked a bunch of water and layed down and everything was fine.
I think if your doctor says not to worry I wouldn't. If you're having contractions that do dilate they can give medication to stop it. They can also do a swab to see if you are producing a hormone which means you'll enter labor in the next 14 days. Contractions that dilate will get more intesne and closer together and not be stimulated by movement etc. I'm sure it's scary and inconvenient but honestly, just follow the doctors instructions and it sounds like everything will be fine. Like the other poster said, some people just have "crabby" uteruses.
