I don't even know what features to look for. I'm guessing I want a lot of pockets and something that is cute and doesn't cost too much. Other than that, I have no idea. If you really like yours, let's see it!
Oh yeah, and would it be weird to get a girly looking one if I end up having a boy? I like the look of some of the ones with pink accents.
Re: How did you choose your diaper bag?
Here's the one I registered for:
https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3674385&fromRegistryNumber=45730689&product_skn=282178
It's not very girly at all. But we are having a boy and I want DH to feel comfortable carrying it around without him feeling like he's carrying around something super girly like my purse. But in general, I'm not a very "girly girl" anyway.
And when I was in the store looking at them it looked like it had a lot of great storage options and different pockets, etc. And the price it right in case no one buys it for us and we end up having to purchase it ourselves.
I wanted something that looks like a bag/purse that I would normally carry - we walk everywhere so I'm not going to carry a diaper bag and a purse. I also wanted a wipeable liner and a separate compartment for the changing pad so that I didn't have to stick a potentially icky changing pad in the same place as snacks/bottles/etc. I'm not a pocket person...stuff just get's stuck in the main compartment but I did want one external pocket for keys and wallet, etc so I'm not having to dig through the entire bag when I need those items.
I think if you're getting a 'baby-ish' looking bag then it should probably look like the baby you have but if it's more of a purse style than it doesn't matter what colors are on it.
Hmm... good point. I don't want to carry a purse AND a diaper bag, so I need something that can serve both purposes. Would you consider this "baby-ish"?

No - I think that's cute! Here is my 'everyday' diaper bag
And I got this plain black Kate Spade diaper bag at a garage sale (tags still on it) for overnights. Obviously the second one is way bigger than the first even though the pics look like the opposite.
When picking a diaper bag, I went for looks (yup, I'll admit it), wipeable material inside and out, a changing pad, a wipes holder, with plenty of storage that would be comfortable to carry.
I ended up with a glazed Petunia Pickle Bottom boxy backpack: https://www.apeainthepod.com/product.asp?Product_Id=894420222&MasterCategory_Id=MC22&Media=FroogleDataFeed_09_2010 . It's wipeable and water repellant. It can be carried on one shoulder, slung across the body, or as a backpack. And I figured with all the crap I'll be putting in it, it might get heavy and carrying it one shoulder might be a pain, so I like that it can be worn as a backpack too. And it has a built in, detachable changing pad.
And I think getting a girly bag is fine even if you're having a boy. The bag is for you, not the baby, IMO. My bag is light blue and I happen to be having a boy, but I got it before I knew what I was having.
I bought and returned several. I finally settled on this one because it was a little cheaper than the other ones I was looking at. It has a ton of compartments (the pictures do not do it justice on how many there are).

1. I wanted one DH would carry
2. I like lots of structure in my bags, so lots of pockets are good, but I also didn't want some massive bag that I'd spend 3 days digging thru.
3. I didn't want something that screamed "Diaper bag!"
So this is what we got:
food blog | garden blog | curly dogs blog
I wanted something that looked like a purse, and larger as I have a large purse now and can barely fit everything in it.
I will just get a cheap black messenger bag for DH.
Timi and Leslie Charlie bag in black.
I had my heart on the JJ Cole System 180 because it was gender neutral and didn't look too much like a diaper bag, but when I saw it in person it seemed too big to me. Neither of us is going to be out for hours a day with the baby very often so I decided I didn't need a big bag for every day use. I wound up getting a Skip Hop bag on sale Target for $20 (can't find an online picture of it). While I don't love it, it's cute enough, functional and will work until I figure out a better option.
I've also heard a bunch of people who get a fashionable, large purse and use that as a diaper bag. I may go that route if I find something I like.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions. It seems like most people are going with something that doesn't really look like a diaper bag, and you've all convinced me to do the same. I think I'm going to get this one - I just hope it's big enough:

I wanted something that was going to be good quality, durable, not too big, and appropriate for both DH and me to carry so we ended up getting the diaper bag from L.L. Bean. It was $50 and got great reviews and in my experience their products last forever.
