Dr. Browns and Born Free question

Does anyone know if the wide neck version of Dr. Browns and Born Free have nipples that can be interchangable?

Those are the main 2 types of bottles we use and the nipples look the same. I need to get LO some level 2 nipples and I'd like to only get one brand of they'll work together.

Also, I know you're supposed to buy new nipples when you have a new baby, but what if they never really used the nipples on a certain bottle? I just realized that I had Avent bottles that are made for "milk storage" that I never used. They came with everything except the nipples, so I bought some level 1 nipples and boiled them. Now I'm realizing that she probably needs level 2+ because it took her forever to eat last time she was with my mom.

Re: Dr. Browns and Born Free question

  • I think I used Medela and Dr Browns in either bottle with no problems.  If they look the same try it, if it doesn't leak I wouldn't see anything wrong with that.

Boiled and seldom used, I would think are fine to keep.  Just make sure to check for cracks before you use them with LO#2.

  • We have the same issue with the Born Free nipples - they take Anne a lot longer than the Dr. Brown's.

However, I think if you are still BFing A, then everything I have read says to stay at level 1.  A mom at a BFing support group I went to once went to Level 2 and her daughter wouldn't nurse with her anymore because she got too frustrated at the slow flow level.

I've always heard that you're supposed to stay at level 1 when BFing as well. It takes A 5 minutes to breastfeed and 30+ minutes to take a bottle though. Last time she was with my mom, she drank half of what she normally does (she's only had 1 bottle in the last month since I SAHM now but that 1 bottle was last weekend). My mom said that she pretty much would periodically drink an ounce here or there. So I was thinking that she either preferred that the milk come directly from me or that the nipple is too slow.
She's did a sippy cup last weekend and the milk came out quickly. She nursed fine afterward, but she's only done used it once so I can't really base anything off that :)
