3rd Trimester

"you're so SMALL!"

I know when people say this they're probably trying to be helpful or polite....but I have gained 30 lbs and I am far from small! Maybe they mean
small for 35+ weeks, but all it does is make me worry my baby isn't growing. Why can't people avoid the "so big" and "so small" comments and just say we look pretty?

Re: "you're so SMALL!"

  • they just can't help it! they have to say something and they think they are flattering you.

  • This is my BIGGEST pet peeve.  "You're so small"  "You're so tiny"  "You're baby is gonna be so small/tiny."  And so on and so on.  I have heard it through ALL 3 of my pregnancies.  In the beginning it's easy to ignore or smile off - but the other day at work...I had a patient tell me I didn't even look pregnant.  Really - I am 9 months pregnant.  THIS is not a beer belly.  I know they mean well...but it's just annoying so I completely understand.  At least you are almost done :)
Sawyer Quinn (09/06/06), Rory Keaton (04/07/08) and Kinsley Saffron (10/12/10). Forever and ever my babies they'll be. A rose can say "I love you",orchids can enthrall, but a weed bouquet in a chubby fist, yes, that says it all.~Author Unknown

  • I know they're trying to be nice, though some of them give you that "concerned" look like you're not eating enough. Child, please...come watch me hose  a bag of chips at lunch and you'll know I'm eating for two! :)
  • Well, hearing "you are huge!" (which I get all the time) is no picnic either.

  • I'm also on the "you're HUGE!" side. I can't tell you how many times a week I smile and nod as yet another person does the "are you sure it's not twins?" "are you sure you're not due until December?" "were you this big with your first one?" routine.

  • Oh, I know. The "huge" comments would get me too - don't get me wrong. It's all wrong...like I said, people just have no self censor when it comes to pregnant women.
  • I'm in the same boat!  I've gained 30 lbs, and I get the same comment, "You're so small!"  Do you see this giant stomach I have?!  This is NOT small to me!  I've never weighed this much in my life!!
  • I get the exact same comments as you, and I have actually just started to comment back to them "nope, its not twins, Im just fat!" And people may even say "she is going to be a big baby!" which could be true, however I also say "she probably will come out at like 6 lbs" because I want them to realize they are being a little ignorant by mentioning a woman's weight!

I would get upset if someone said I was small too, because I do think it makes you feel like you are not eating enough. I wish people would just say how wonderful we preggers look! (I have had plenty of people say I look great, and I am all belly (which, lets face it, isnt true,LOL) but I appreciate them saying this stuff!!!)

The twin one gets me so frustrated, and I will say matter of factly, "NOPE no twins, Ive had 2 ultrasounds, and we have heard only one heartbeat MANY times, I dont think it is possible there is one hidden there now"....

  • better than people asking if youre having twins...then saying ARE YOU SURE when you tell them no.
  • I get these comments at least once a week... and that infrequently is only because I almost never leave the house anymore!

Yes, after 7 ultrasounds I'm REALLY sure it is NOT twins!

  • This is my third and I have been BOTH "HUGE" and this one- apparently "SMALL" and as if pregnancy does not have enough concerns as it is- people add this to the list.  People just have no clue- and the clothes we wear make a HUGE difference!
  • some people just dont think before they speak. I get the youre so HUGE coments all the time...its irritating as hell

  • I get both "you're so tiny" bc I'm carrying really small, and "are you sure it's not twins" - to which I usually reply "no, we lost a twin in the first trimester", to remind them that 1) their question is inappropriate and 2) to make them feel like an ass.

  • I hear this all the time too. "You're so small, I can't believe you are due in 3 weeks." I am far from small, I have gained almost 35 pounds! I guess people don't know what to say, other mom's will say you look great or something else that is positive and doesn't refer to my size. You're huge and you're small shouldn't be said. I'm not concerned about my baby's size at all, the dr. is saying she will be 7 1/2 pounds.
