Introduction

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Amy and I am from NY. I have a 14 month old son, Jayden. In the middle of July I miscarried at 13 wks. In the beginning of September I had a positive pregnancy test. Of course we were shocked that we basically got pregnant again only weeks after my miscarriage. Today we went to the doctor for our 1st ultrasound. We are 8 weeks pregnant with twins. There are no words to explain the surprise, excitement, and nervousness my husband and I feel.

The sacs were very close together and the membrane looked very thin. My doctor said we will have to keep an eye on it. My doctor's office does ultrasounds every appointment so I am very happy about that. Any advice you can give me would be great.

Re: Introduction

  • Welcome and congrats!  I don't have any advice regarding the u/s, but maybe some other ladies on here have some experience.

  • congrats on your twins! sounds like you have di/mo twins. sharing a placenta, but in separate amniotic sacs. they will be identical. it's a high-risk pregnancy, but it doesn't have to be scary. make sure your OB can handle this kind of twins, and make sure you get a referral to a perinatologist (or MFM.)

  • congrats!  my membrane was so thin that they sent me for level 2 u/s to get a better look. (they are in two sacs)

My only advice, ask any and all questions and dont be afraid to get second opinions if answers dont make sense to you.

I have had two different doctors say two different things with my u/s.  One said di/di (at about 13 wks) and one said di/mo at (18 wks)  Does that make sense to you??  I believe my OB said she can't tell whether I have two fused placentas or just one...shes not too concerned cause babies are pretty much the same size.. should i be concerned that i've gotten different reports?  i guess im just happy they are there to be over concerned with what 'type' of twins they are.

there's a big difference between di/di and di/mo. i'd think an earlier u/s would be more accurate. but if they had such a hard time finding a membrane, that almost certainly points to di/mo. as long as you're getting lots of monitoring, i guess it doesn't really matter.
