Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

how long to miscarriage?

So I should have been 6 weeks 4 days today.  I went for an ultrasound yesterday after my betas were not doubling.  We saw a sac but they could not find a fetal pole so the dr. told me I was going to have a miscarriage.  When will this happen??  They say it looks like growth stopped at week 4.

Re: how long to miscarriage?

  • Everyone is different.  I didn't miscarry at all.  That's why I needed a D&C.   Some women might take a really long time to miscarry naturally.  Talk to your doctor about your options.

  • My dr. wants me to try and miscarry on my own first before we discuss d&c.....he is dragging this out and now I have to go back Tuesday for ultrasound and bloodwork to see if I am miscarrying on my own....this is just emotionally draining and dragging it out on me.......
  • You dont' have to go through the agony of waiting.....if your doctor won't at least give you the option of a d&c, then find someone who will. I had a d&c this morning due to a missed miscarriage at 8 weeks. I was 12 weeks this past sunday, and was told that it was not uncommon to have to wait up to 8 weeks to miscarry. He gave me the option of waiting it out, or having the d&c. At least this way it will be easier to move on. I am so sorry for your loss, and truly wish you all the best.

  • I was 11 weeks 3 days when I started bleeding.  When they did an ultrasound the baby had no heartbeat and measured 9 weeks 1 day.  So the heart stopped beating about 2 weeks before I started bleeding.  Luckily, the next day I naturally miscarried.  I was scheduled for a D&C this morning but cancelled because I don't think I need it.  I agree with a PP that if your doctor won't do the D&C soon and you want it done, find another doctor.  I can't imagine going back to work waiting to miscarry.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon.

  • I've been trying to wait it out naturally too and it is starting to really wear me down after 3 weeks of bleeding off and on.  If you feel like you can't take it anymore I would definitely push your Dr. to do something, or find another Dr. that will.  I know that's easier said than done, especially at a time like this, but your mental well-being is just as important as your physical health.
