Returning Recalled Formula

Anyone return any of the recalled formula without a receipt? I have 2 big containers from costco, which have been recalled, and three smaller bins I think which are from Walmart, but no receipts!

I know I can return directly to Abbot, but will retailers take it back without proof of purchase?

Re: Returning Recalled Formula

  • Walmart will take back anything that they sell.

  • You can return them at any store that sells Similac without a problem.

You might have to make two seperate trips, one to costco and one to another store for yours, just because they are two different sizes and only costco sells that one size. Other than that, any store will take them back without problems.

We returned ours this morning. We bought off the Abbot website and returned to buy buy baby without a problem.

  • Thanks for the info!

One more Q - what about partially used containers? I was half way through a recalled one... :/

  • I returned 2 unopened and 1 half used container last night at Kroger and it was no problem.  I got a full refund for all 3.

we were half way through as well. still no problems.

  • EVEN W/O RECEIPTS??
  • Target told me they will if I bought it from there.  How do they know where you bought it at?  I got it at Walmart but that is farther away and I want to get the Up & Up formula.

But I have a plan if they say no.  I will tell them that I was going to get Up & Up but will now be getting Parents Choice.

  • I have an unopened container, but I had written my last name on it with a Sharpie since it goes in my daycare bag. Will I be able to return it to Target?
  • I made a late night trip to Walmart last night.  I think they were still confused about the recall (it was news to her, but apparently not to others because when I got back to the baby aisle, all Similac powdered formula was pulled from the shelf), but the manager told me that recalls are not the same as normal returns.

I returned a half used container last nght without a receipt.  They gave me a gift card (although the manager had told the girl to give me a refund, but whatever).  It didn't really matter to me since I turned around and bought different formula anyway.

But just to answer any questions about returning half used containers or if you don't have a receipt.  It is my understanding that a recall is different (more than likely, the store just sends them back to Similac and gets refunded from the company, so I doubt it matters too much where they come from originally).

shouldn't be a problem. it's not like they are going to re-sell it, they are just going to return it to Abbot for a refund.
