teething + weaning = omfg I'm going to die

Well, maybe not die. But definitely be incredibly sleep deprived.

The last two nights have been non-stop fussing marathons from teething, and because formula just ain't cutting it any more (but they're still only in the sampling stage of eating solids) they've decided that 5am is a good feeding time. And yeah I know they used to eat at 5am all the time, but they got me used to them sleeping from 10.30pm-6.30/7.30am so this is killing me!

On top of that, I think they're working on some kind of developmental milestone, which is also making them wakeful (don't think it's a growth spurt since historically they sleep through those). Which is awesome, but please sleep, little pirates!

In other news, thank you all for your shopping/body image encouragement yesterday. I know that I'm only 5 months postpartum but I'm just feeling so crappy about the way I look! I ended up going with this dress and this cardigan in black. Oh and Lori, thanks for the shapewear link! I'm going to need to buy some. I tried on my waist cincher thingy last night, and on the upside I can get all the hook-and-eyes fastened. On the downside, I almost certainly cannot walk, talk, sit, stand, eat, drink, dance or pee...and I suspect that if one of the hooks snapped, it would fly across the room and put someone's eye out. Stick out tongue

  • Oy! 5 am is sooo early, I'll send the boys a memo that their Mama needs them to sleep until at least 7:30 :)

Do they stay awake once their finished with their feedings at 5:30?

That dress is super cute, I'm sure you will look fab!

Could you? Maybe they'll listen to someone other than Mama, because when I tell them each night how much I'd appreciate it if they slept longer, they just laugh at me. Stick out tongue

They nap a little, but then they're up and ready to go. If they went right back to sleep it probably wouldn't be so bad.

  • Oy. I am sorry, that sucks. Hopefully they'll settle back into a routine soon.  Libby has decided she no longer wants to sleep until 8:30-9 a.m. and is now up everyday at 7 a.m....which is hard on her daddy who comes to bed around 1 a.m.  I am up at 5 a.m. and out the door by 6:45 a.m. so I've told him that on the weekends I'll get up with her since 7 a.m. is "sleeping in" for me! LOL!

Glad you got the cute dress and carti...you will be smokin' hot!  Cannot wait to see pics!  And I hope the shapewear works for you...lol about the cincher...I have felt like "poppin' fresh dough" in those things before so I totally laughed when I read what you wrote.  Personally?  Nude colored, high powered spandex has been my friend since 1995!

  • Do you think it's from teething or could it be the solids? Bella had AWFUL nights right after she started solids and I chalked it up to teething, ended up she was having constipation issues and her belly was hurting. Just a thought. Either way, maybe if you don't think it's the solids, could you stuff them a little fuller at their last feeding? Either more solids or more milk?

We get up at 5:30 at our house! Oh yeah it's early and this mama LOVES her sleep but it is what it is and what it has been for some time now. Funny that if she doesn't get up on her own at 5:30 (which is rare) I wake up at 545, guess she's programmed my internal body clock. Today she slept until 630!! RECORD!! Needless to say I was up and DH was up to so (Pause for a little TMI) we used it as a morning nookie time :)

As for the dress, that was my favorite one! So adorable! As for the waist clincher thingy, I have tried those in the past and I can't breath at all! Whether you wear it or not, you'll look fab!! Besides the fact that you should celebrate the body that allowed you to have TWO babies in there!! I'm not sure my body could handle it, this time, it's barely able to handle one!

  • just had to add, I love the Pirates Vs Rice Cereal and Avocado pix! LOL

and I think the dress choice is a good one :)

and oh yeah, when they decide that, it sucks!

They seem to be pooing normally (after we stopped the rice cereal, anyway) so I don't think it's constipation. Maybe it's just a different feeling than they're used to, though?

The problem with feeding is that we can't coax them to eat. Even if they "should" be hungry (like if it's bedtime and it's been more than 4 hours since they last ate), if they would rather sleep than eat, they'll squeal and howl and shove away the bottle. Same thing with solids - if they don't want them, they don't want 'em so trying to increase how much they're eating won't work. Sad

  • wakefulness is tough! i hope they get back on track soon, no matter what the cause is. it may just be the teething and not food related. i dunno :) for the longest time miss A was waking up every day between 5-5:30am and it was killing me!! i felt like a zombie...but, thankfully she has shifted her wake up time a little now, to 6-6:30... there are still random mornings where she's up earlier, but i am glad that on average it is after 6am now!!

Well since the plumbing seems to be working, I have no other suggestions! For Bella adding a toy (a little stuffed animal) helped when she woke up in the middle of the night, then she had something to cuddle and would go back to sleep sometimes... although they may stil be a little young for that yet.

Yeah, I don't think I'd be comfortable with doing that yet. I suppose I could chuck their Sophies in there, although they associate those more with play than comfort.

  • Sometime teething can reduce their appetite because their gums are sore. My friend swore by gripewater whenever her babies teethed. She said they ate and slept better on it. Maybe ask your pedi if you can give it a try.
