okay DH and I can NOT find any names we both love. it's getting to the point where neither of us even want to think about it any more. we had a girls name all picked out .. Delia Mae ...then we found out "it" is a "he" and we haven't come up with a darn thing.
long story short, it's even more difficult because my DH is deployed (won't be back until well after the birth) so our name deciding has basically been us emailing lists back and forth. it's just not the same as having a conversation and being able to say the names out loud, etc. we've become so desperate we actually spent a 30 minute Skype conversation just both of us refreshing the random name generator website over and over and reading each other the names we didn't hate.
yeah. it's that bad.
at this point I am open to any suggestions but here is a little background if you're interested:
we'd like to avoid any J names as H and all 6 of his brothers have J names (yeah.. just like the Duggars...) and we are not interested in continuing that tradition, nor getting comments about it. our last name sounds like Payden so Aiden, Brayden or any other rhyming name is out. obviously we can't be sure, but red hair runs in both of our families so we are basically expecting him to a pale little red head.. probably lots of freckles.. H loves Irish names and I'm not opposed.
so far our list consists of Odin, Finley, Ezra, Wesley and Silas. I think Odin is too weird, tho I like weird names.. Finley is nice but more of a girls name IMO, and tho we both like Ezra.. every single person I've mentioned it to comments on how it's a Jewish name.. I don't so much care either way, but I don't like that that's the first thing people think since we're, well, not Jewish. Wesley and Silas H just doesn't like, but they're my favorites so far.
we will probably go with Mark as a middle name because it's H's and FIL's middle name. but I'm open to different mn suggestions, too. anything that sounds "cool" with our last name I'm open to. thank you so so so much in advance
Re: bored? name my baby boy! ..please?!
I'm sure you have either been through all of these names or they are not your style, but I'll just stick my list in here anyway (minus any "J" names)
Logan, Noah, Andrew, Caleb, Patrick, Luke, Ryan, Adam, Spencer, Connor, Aaron, Isaac, Clayton, Seth, Hudson, Tyler, Weston, Eli, August/Augustus (nn Gus), Nicholas, Phillip, Zachary, Evan, Simon, Bennett, Mason, Gibson, Sullivan, Ian, Garrett, Dawson
A few of the favorites for your situation ...
Patrick is my favorite Irish boy name. It was almost DS2's name.
Since you said you like different names, Weston, Dawson, Ian, Garrett, Bennett, Sullivan, Gibson, Spencer and Clayton stand out as more different than the rest of my mostly traditional/classic list.
I also like the sound of ones that don't end in 'n' due to your last name so - Isaac, Connor, Eli, August/Augustus, Nicholas, Zachary, etc.
FWIW, Wesley is by far my favorite name on your list.

Kyle Mark Lastname. I don't know why exactly, but that's the name that came to mind. It's Scottish, not Irish, but definitely in the same vein as most Irish names.
Have you tried the Name Finder at BabyNameWizard? You can eliminate all the letters and letter combinations you don't like and get a decent list.
thank you
I'm now reminded of another crappy part of our situation.. between our family and friends every name is already taken! seriously 3/4 of the names you've listed already are friends or family names already. :sigh:
thank you though!
I love the name Kyle but it's my cousins name already
I've spent hours and hours on BabyNameWizard.. it's my favorite of all of the name sites, but I always end up frustrated!
yes!! so many of the names I love end in "n" too! and it just doesn't flow well with our last name. I do like Connor a lot! I hadn't considered that one until now.
I think Ezra is really cute, but since it's uncommon enough that yes, the first thing people will probably associate it is with the Biblical Ezra. I have the same hesitations about the name Asher which has made it to our top two names.

I agree that Odin may be a bit too far out there. Odin + Irish-y makes me thing of Eamon and Ewan (which is Scottish, but nevermind), both of which may be "weird," but are a step back from Odin.
I also agree that Finley is going over to the girls. You could do Finnegan, Finnian, or Griffin to get the nickname Fin if you like that.
I like Ezra. It certainly doesn't say "little redhead" to me, but I like it anyway.
Both Silas and Wesley are good names that go well with Mark and your last name, so it's a bummer that your husband doesn't like them. Other names that come to mind looking at those two: Lawrence, Simon, Walter, Arthur.

Just wanted to say that I like Ezra... and, the first thing that comes to mind for me is Better Than Ezra... HTH!!
GL!
Ezra is a great name, and while it is traditionally used by Jewish families, it is a book included in the Bible (which, IMO, gives Christians and people of traditionally Christian heritage a right to the name).
If you both love Ezra, use it. It doesn't matter what other people think. But if it's going to bother you, what about...
Instead of Finley (which does have a bit of a feminine slant, and is being used for girls), what about Phineas, Finnegan, or Finnean?
Instead of Odin, what about Orrin, Oscar, Otto, Oliver, or Osmond?
my brother has an awesome Irish name...It means red king and he is a redhead! ....Rory

Connor, Declan, Kellan, Colin, Liam?

Didn't read through previous responses, so I apologize for repeats!
Seth, Sean, Finnegan nn Finn, Weston, Simon, Sebastian...
We are naming our son Connor Patrick which is a very Irish name (DH's middle name is Patrick). We have an Irish last name too.
Other Irish names on our list were Ronan, Collin, and Finn (well, Griffin).
