Hi guys

I have a 6 week old and I am exclusively bottle feeding...i have had some family members who have babies of the same age ask me if i was giving LO water??...does anyone know if i should be giving LO water since she isnt breastfeeding??..everywhere i see it sais NOT to give LO water at this age but i know of at least 2 babies right now that are fed water...so confused

It's not necessary to give a newborn water.  There is plenty of water in the formula and breastmilk. It's easy for a baby to get full on a couple ounces of water which will lead them to not drink enough formula/breastmilk.  Babies need to fill up on nourishment.  It's usually okay to give a few sips of water in a sippy cup with solids around 6 months old.  I would talk to your doctor about this.

I was never advised to give water by my DR.

From what I've read, you don't need to give water until LO is at least 4 months, but closer to 6 months old.
