my 3y/o is a nail biter!

So for about the last month or so, my child has been biting her nails.  I feel like an idiot for letting it go this long.  I'd sit down to trim her nails and they wouldn't need trimming.  duh!  So anyway, I want to nip this in the bud asap.  I bought some Thum

I painted her nails tonight with it, but I'm not convinced it will work.

While I was looking at amazon, I saw another product and wondered if anyone else had used it.  It isn't sold in the us, which I'm not crazy about, but I'm still interested in it.

So sorry that these links aren't clicky.  I don't know how to make them clicky in firefox.  Does anyone know how?

  • I'm saving this for later, and would love to know how what you got works!  I'm waiting to see mine's bones poke out of the ends of her fingers she chews them so much! Ugh!
  • Audrey is nail biter. She's been doing this for close to a year. I tried the bitter nail stuff and turns out she likes it.

I have yet to figure out a way to get her to stop.

This is my fear!  I'll put the bitter stuff on and she'll love it!  She did love sucking lemons when she was little.

Oh goodness, sorry that made me laugh.... sounds like my daughter.  I'm sure she'll end up liking it or something.  Just to be contrary.   The other link I posted has great reviews.  I'm just a little leery of putting it on L's nails.

  • I noticed that all of the posters so far have girls...I have two boys and DS1 bites his nails...I actually like this fact because then I don't have to wrestle him to cut them.  But I do think that I would feel differently if he were a girl.

  • Yeah, mine does it too.  We've noticed she does it when she's nervous and we've also caught her biting her toenails once.
  • DS bites his nails and has been doing so since he was 2. I don't know how to stop it.

I can say as a former thumb sucker, that nasty stuff you put on fingers and thumbs to discourage sucking/biting does NOT work! My mom put that stuff on my thumbs and I would just suck it off until my thumb tasted like normal again. Smile  Save your money!

I know!  I was a thumb sucker until I was 5.  I actually asked my parents to buy the stuff and paint it on my thumb.  I do remember it not really working; I think I was just ready to quit.

I'm still painting her nails with it.  At least I feel like I'm doing something to stop her from biting them!

  • my DD was a nail biter.  I started painting her nails with pretty polish (a light pink) and told her that if she still bit her nails they wouldn't look so pretty.  She's into that so it worked for her.  She still bites sometimes but not often now.  It took about a year for her to stop.
