Would you/do you bleach baby clothes?

I just pulled out the boys' baby stuff to take inventory on what sizes of stuff I'll need for DD.  I had two refluxy/pukey babies and most everything is stained.  I didn't notice stains when I put them away, but now they're covered in yellow marks.

Frugal as I'd like to be, I just can't see putting a baby in something that looks disgusting.  Should I try to bleach them?  That seems too harsh for baby stuff.

Re: Would you/do you bleach baby clothes?

  • DD was an explosive pooped.  I bleached a lot of her stuff but I always rewashed it.  I hate how sometimes bleach odor lingers.

You may want to try an OxiClean soak or even making a paste of OxiClean and water and letting it sit on the stain for a while then wash with Dreft or whatever you choose.  The stains may lift out.

Just remember that drying the clothes in the dryer will set the stain so I would let them air dry once washed to make sure the stain comes out.

  • I bleached a lot of DD#1's onesies because she spit up soooo much.  It seemed dumb to buy all new things for her--especially when I was looking at things that would be worn under other clothing.

And also--did I miss that you were having a little girl!?!?!?  I thought you were going to be Team Green?  Congrats on the new little one either way :)

  • Ditto the oxyclean.  We just went through this with 5 yr old DD's stuff for the baby. It almost all came out.  Let it soak in the washer for an hour or so.

We were planning on Team Green and then my H lost his job a few days before our big u/s and we decided we wanted something to look forward to and figured we'd had enough surprises this year after we both lost our jobs.

    So, yes -- we're having a girl!

  • Wash in baby oxy. I think it yellows over time.  I already did that with some of the boys clothes and most everything came clean.
