Self-weaning

When does this self-weaning happen? LO is 16 mos, and he still needs to be nursed to sleep.

Part of me says, oh he'll grow out of it when he grows out of it, and part of me flashes back to that British documentary about the 7 year old who was still nursing.

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents.
DD is 14moths and up untill 2 weeks only nursed to sleep.

 And DD now goes to sleep next to me without nursing to sleep or comfort nursing (Sleeping at night is 10x better). Dont get me wrong the first week was rough we rocked and the first night we were up like 4 or 5 times, by night number 4 she was fine and no need to nurse to sleep.

 I didn't want to CIO with her, shes just doesn't react well to it.  this was the perfect method for us.

 My night is now:is around 7 we  Nurse (5 min or so) then  wind down time (coloring and or reading for 15/20 mi) then we lay down and within 5 min shes out.
