infant tantrums...

They just started last week and they revolve around any sleepy time.  The boy absolutely resists them.  Anyone have experience with this?  He seems like a different child to me.

This also makes his sleep progressively crappier...I didn't know how well I had it when he was waking up 3 times a night and nursing down easily.

  • My LO started doing this recently too. I can't nurse him back to sleep. So I covered him up with a blanket and held him and rocked him while he screamed his head off for about 30 minutes and then he passed out. If I can get him to nurse to sleep I will. If not I wrap him up and rock him and he usually passes out within minutes.

  • Ours does this before every nap and bedtime.  What seems to work for DH and the baby is for him to give her the paci, then cover her face with the blankie, and walk out of the room.  Within 2-10 min she is sound asleep, she isn't crying during this time, but will cry if she loses her blankie or paci.  She usually pulls the blanket off her face before she falls asleep as well.  (This is one of those handkerchief sized blankets, so it barely covers her head.)  DH says she's like a parrot, you have to cover her eyes to get her to sleep.

I'm not trying to be mean here, but don't you think thats a lil dangerous? With the risk of SIDS and all?? I'd be terrified to put a blanket over DS face because of this. I understand your LO can pull it off of her face but still. I dunno, seems scary to me.

  • my son is 8mo and just started this! he used to nurse and fall asleep and stay asleep, now he wakes up and thrashes and whines. ugh. evey pm wake-up is an hour long fight now. I'm really hoping it's just a phase!

my son covers his own face sometime, I think it's ok for older babies. I remember freaking out about SIDS when he stared voluntarily sleeping on him tummy, face buried- no matter how many times I turned him over.

  • DD was like this for awhile and it turned out to be related to her being over tired. We changed her bedtime to an earlier time and it went away.
