Treadmill walking and BH in 3rd Tri

I haven't worked out as much as I had thought I would in this pregnancy (was too sick in first tri and then lost momentum), although I have been a pretty avid runner/weight lifter for the last 10+ years.

In other words, I may not be in the best shape of my life, but I am generally in good shape. HOWEVER, it has been more and more difficult to even just walk (outside or on the treadmill) in the last few weeks (or months!).

Then, a few days ago, I was walking on the treadmill and found that I had BH every few minutes and it was really difficult - even painful. I walked like that for half an hour, then walked home (~7 minutes). For the next 2-3 hours (until I went to sleep), I had BH every ten minutes.

I was drinking water throughout, so I wasn't dehydrated... So it seems excessive to me (the amount of BH).

Has this happened to anyone else?  Is it normal?

Re: Treadmill walking and BH in 3rd Tri

  • I slowly stopped working out because of sciatic/hip/back pain in my third trimester. I didn't get extra BH from it. I get BH while not doing anything. If they keep up check in with your doc.
  • Yes, that happened to me and that's why I'm on bed rest now Sad  I started getting crampy while doing my walking workout so I told my doc and she said to slow it down so I did.  Then I started having intense BH while doing just little walks.  Those BH turned into early labor contractions and I ended up in the hospital and had to get an injection to stop the contractions since I'm not even close to full term yet.

  • Thanks for the info.

The very frequent BH stopped the next day (back to my usual once in a half an hour - once in a few hours), so I'm not worried. However, I will avoid the treadmill from now on I think.

  • Same thing is happening to me!!  I have been having some pretty painful braxton hicks / cramps when I work out (elliptical & treadmill walking) the past two weeks.  Last Wednesday It got so bad I had to stop walking and ended up having severe cramps for 4 hours.  I went to the hospital and they said they didn't know why except maybe I was dehydrated ( I drink at least (3) 32oz water bottles a day!!!)  I was banned from exercising until at least tomorrow so I am going to try drinking a lot more water before the gym and take it easy tomorrow and see how it goes.  Hope yours doesn't get too bad!!!!  Best of luck!!!
