DD was a great sleeper until 4.5 months. She got sick and then even after she got better she's been waking up every 3-4 hours instead of going 8-10 hours at night. If we're lucky she sleeps for 6 hours straight. She's also been MUCH harder to put down. She used to sleep by 8:30 the latest after just 10-20 minutes of rocking tops. Now she wakes up the minute you put her back in the crib. It's been taking until 10 or 11 to get her to stay down and some nights I just give up and sleep with her in the guest bedroom (in her Nap Nanny). She is teething but the pedi felt around her mouth and only felt one tooth and had to push hard to feel it so she thinks it will be another month before it even breaks (maybe sooner but not tomorrow). Knowing this is going to go on for awhile, I sucked it up and tonight we tried CIO for the first time. After about 30-45 minutes of screaming she finally fell fast asleep and has been sleeping soundly since. It sucked listening to her but I busied myself with cleaning the kitchen otherwise I would have cried with her. Hoping tomorrow takes less time and we can get our good sleeper back.
I clearly taught her some bad habits after she was sick as she would only sleep 5+ hours if she was sleeping with us. No more of that. Wish us luck as it is not going to fun the next few nights. How long did you have to CIO until DC was sleeping better?
Re: We did CIO tonight...
I'm sorry. It's been a long time but I remember doing CIO with our older DD and it was hard!
We did it at when she was six months old also. The first night took 40 minutes, the second took 15 and the third night maybe 5 minutes. After that her sleep was much much better. Good luck and I hope it works for you guys!
CIO is so hard, so i feel for you!!
for us, night 3 was the magic night... i had always heard the 3rd night was the night they "get" it, but i was going to give maddy 5-7 nights bc she is so strong willed... well, the 3rd night i put her down, and there was absolutely no crying!
Night 3 was also the magic night for us. Sometimes he still half-heartedly cries for a minute while we walk out the door, but by the time I get downstairs and turn on the monitor he is sound asleep.
When he was teething it would sometimes take 15 minutes for him to fall to sleep, but it was better if we used oragel on his swollen gums. Now that his 2 bottom teeth have broken through he doesn't fuss nearly as much and actually rolls over to go to sleep after we finish reading his story.
Good luck! I hope it goes well for you!

Yeah, I agree with the others....night 3 was magical
It is hard those first few nights though, but remember you are teaching her valuable life tools that she will rely on for the rest of her life!
It's so hard! We did it with Grant and by the 3rd night he was doing SO much better.
We'll most likely have to do it with Bready too and I am dreading it :-(.
Good luck!
