Who knits?

I know I've seen knitting posts on here before. I'd really like to learn, but have no one to teach me. How did you learn? Did you find it easy? Any good projects to start with?

  • www.knittinghelp.com and the Knit Witch videos on YouTube.

There are not many stitches-- everything is basically a combo of knits, purls, increases and decreases.

  • Taught myself.  Got a book, yarn & needles from the store & started.  Youtube and Ravelry have helped also.  For me, it's best if I can actually watch someone doing it, I have a hard time just staring at a picture or reading it.  It's easy, I've done a bunch of stuff already.

The easiest things are with no pattern and flat - like a wash cloth/dish cloth.  Even patterns are fairly easy, you just have to count as you go.

  • My SIL taught me. Most people will tell you that it's easy, but I think learning to knit and purl is very difficult--the motions just don't feel natural. That said, once you master those, the rest really is easy. I'd recommend checking out the videos mentioned by pps. Also, don't be afraid to just walk into your local yarn store and ask anyone for help--knitters LOVE to help other knitters!
  • I learned from my local store.  However, I bet you could definitely learn just by watching videos online.  I think a scarf is a super easy first project.  (Albeit, a very simple scarf... but, still a scarf!)  GL!
  • Thanks ladies!

  • Definitely recommend the videos at www.knittinghelp.com.  That's where I learned.  From there, I joined Ravelry where I have learned a ton of stuff.  And now, I have more yarn than I will ever be able to knit, yet I keep buying more.  LOL
