Registering w/no shower...

This might be flame-worthy. Is it tacky to set-up a registry even though I am not having a shower? I am not having a shower since no one has offered and my immediate family and close friends live way too far away. My sister recommended setting one up as a way to stay organized and just in case someone asks. Also, I am thinking about doing one at BRU just to get the free $10 gift card when adding a diaper genie to the registry.

Just curious.

I don't think there is anything wrong with it. It is definitely a good way to stay organized when it comes to everything that you are going to need for LO. And hey, if someone does ask, at least you can tell them where you are registered!

I don't think its tacky.  Why not set one up?  I'd do it just for the discount   Go for it!

I set one up and am not having a shower.  Then if people still want to get you gifts, they can.

I don't think it's tacky. It's not like you are setting one up and sending everyone you know a letter that says "Here's a list of stuff you should buy me". A lot of people set them up just for the completion discount at the end.

not tacky at all! i set one up as soon as i was out of the first tri, cuz i was int he same boat as you, nobody had offered to throw a shower for us and all of my family is out of state. lots of DH's CWs were asking where we were registered anyway and i know (well, i hope...) eventually my family will ask me if we have a registry too....as it turns out, we are having a sort of shower after all which we combined with my Dh's birthday party and are calling it a celebration instead of a "shower" but people have already gotten gifts for it off our registry, so it can't hurt...also, the completion discount it great

i'd do it... there is a BRU coupon i just got for a free 25 bucks for opening a reg.... get all the free gift cards you can girlie!

I'm not having a shower and I set up an online registry.  It's been a great way for me to keep track of what I want to buy and it's really convenient to send a link if anyone asks what we need. Just because you're not having a shower doesn't mean people won't want to get you something.  It's an easy way family and friends to peek into your baby planning even if they can't be with you in person. Go for it!

I don't think it's tacky at all... as long as you don't send out mass e-mails letting people know where you are registered =P  I know I partially use it to keep track of what I've researched and want to buy, so it's definitely useful for that.  And I'm sure that some people will still want to get you a gift.  I've already had some co-workers ask me where I'm registered at.  I'm having a shower at work, but I really wasn't expecting gifts out of it, just some cake and cookies.

i'm not having a shower either, but i have one set up and this is my 3rd baby. i use it too keep a mental note on things i need. there's only about 20 items on there, like new spoons, crib sheets and a few odds and ends here and there but that's about it. i also like it because it keeps me on the baby mailing list, so i can get their coupons.

It's not tacky! I'm not having a shower but I registered at Target and Babies R Us. People have asked if I was registered and I tell them. Plus the gift cards and coupons are nice. Then there's always the coupon at the end for 20% whatever hasn't been purchased, so we're waiting to make a couple purchases until we get that coupon.

Hooray! Thanks ladies! I will use it as a planning tool and if someone asks about a registry it is a win for me.
