Baby Names

Sawyer

What do they call him for short?  Or don't they?

I like the name, but love the option to shorten to one syllable (esp for a boy).

Re: Sawyer

  • I like the name Sawyer, no nickname. I haven't heard one and can't think of one that wouldn't be awful.

  • I like the name, but not sure what nn he could use...

Might have to nn his middle name?  Or just stick with Sawyer. You want a one syllable nn? Would you call him Saw?

  • I know a Sawyer. The name is cute and they didnt give him a nn.

  • My mom has a 2-year-old Sawyer at her daycare. They call him Soy sometimes, and Soy-Boy and Soy-Joy for fun. (I doubt the last two will stick, though).

Just FYI---Sawyer is extremely hard for young children to pronounce. The more proficient speakers can manage "Soy-yuh," but so many kids struggle out "So-ruh."

Even if you didn't call him Soy his whole life, it would be worth shortening for his first few years.

  • I've been running into the same problem...My DH added this name to our list and I fell in love with it, but I don't want people shortening it to "Soy", which I feel is inevitable.
