Pregnant after a Loss

Help me understand maternity pants!

So, I cleaned out my closet yesterday and put away all the clothes that *really* don?t fit and hung up my new purchases. My options these days may be limited but I?m so glad that choosing an outfit in the morning should no longer result in a mountain of rejected clothes on my bed!

Here?s my question. At 16 weeks, should I be getting another be-band to try to get some more wear out of my regular pants?  (I have a white one and think if I had a black one that didn?t show as much sticking out under fall/winter tops, I could maybe still wear a few pairs of my regular pants.) Or will my regular pants really not be working out for that much longer anyway? I mean, eventually do you switch to all maternity pants? (in which case maybe I should save the money and not get another be-band if it?s only going to help me for a couple weeks.) TIA!

  • I think it totally depends on the person. I've heard of some women who can get by their whole pregnancy with bebands and their regular pants. I am short and my belly is huge, so I went straight from my regular pants to exclusively using maternity pants. I can still wear some of my stretchier pre-pregnancy skirts and dresses, though.
  • I never had a belly band, and I could wear some of my pants until 16 weeks. After that I jsut moved into the capri pants that I got at Kohl?s that had the super stretchy band at the top from the motherhood line. Now I wear some other maternity pants that a friend lent me, and I have a feeling that I?ll be out of those in a couple of weeks and have to go get some more. It really just depends how you are carrying. I?m big all around now and not just in the belly since LO likes going to the side instead of out. There is a girl in my swimming class who is 39 weeks and still wearing her regular pants with a belly band since she?s carrying high. HTH!

  • I personally hated the belly band and tried it for a few weeks but went to full panel maternity pants and never looked back! They are super comfortable and just as fashionable as my normal pants :) I love Liz Lange maternity pants from Target. They are cute and fit really well.

  • I loathe maternity jeans so I'm still in my regular pants. They were a size too big to start with. I love my work pants and started wearing them right away. Some of that had to do with the regular pants hurting my incision.

  • I think maternity pants are way more comfortable.  I definitely gave up on my bella band when neither the zipper or buttons would work around my belly. I felt silly wearing pants that were just kept on my a band.  And the maternity pants were just so much more comfortable at that point!

  • its so individual. I am too hippy for the be band to work. But my BFF was in regular clothes with a be band til after 20 weeks I think.  I'd say do the black one if will work for you. Maternity clothes are expensive and you're going to get so tired of them.

  • I just started adding Mat pants at 24 weeks, that being said my reg work pants still fit, but my jeans do not, I have a pair of capri shorts that I just leave the top button undone and go....
  • I was able to wear my regular pants (some of them anyway) until about two weeks ago but I did buy some maternity pants around 16 weeks.  Comfort is key and I preferred the maternity pants to the band anyday.  The only time I would go back to my regular pants is when it was way past laundry day and I didn't have anything left to wear.
