We're in the beginnings of thinking about starting a family. I have a negative blood type. What precautions and steps do I take to get pregnant with a possibly Rh-positive baby?
You don't have to do anything but let your dr know. At a certain part of your pregnancy you'll get a shot of Rhogam to counteract any effects it may have on the baby, and you'll be fine.
You don't have to do anything prior. Just tell your doc (they'll do blood test as well). At around 28 weeks you'll get a Rhogam shot and you'll get one after delivery too if LO has a positive blood type. Do you know your DH blood type? If he's negative you don't need the shot. I'm Rh neg too and the shots are not bad. GL on TTC
you'll get a lovely shot in your @$$ around 28 wks that will possibly be sore for about a month (I am O-...the shot location hurt like I had been punched really hard there). After birth, they'll test the baby's blood. If it's positive, you get more rhogam via IV
