S/O Shots at 4 yr or 5 yr well visit?

Our pedi gives the option of getting immunizations at either the 4 or 5 y.o. well visit.  If you had a choice, which would you pick?

I have thought all along that we would just do them at 5 yrs, but now I am wondering if it will just be worse when they're a year older.

  • We didn't have a choice. Reid just had his at his 5 year appt. This morning. He got the normal 4 plus a flu shot.

In my opinion the year in age didnt really make a difference. He would have had the same reaction to 5 shots last year at age 4. He was frightened but now that we are home he seems to be doing ok. He also had a vision and hearing test.

Luckily, we do not need to have another bog amount of shots until middle school, thank goodness.

I also had a sick appt for Grace while we were there and she got 2 shots and an oral steroid for croup.

It hasn't been fun in this house today!

Ugh.  That doesn't like a good morning at all.  I feel bad for all of you!

  • Our pedi recommends waiting until Age 5. That's what we are doing.
  • Our pedi did them this year, she said "might as well get it over with"

    and so, we did!

  • I'm one of those paranoid freaks who doesn't like giving my kids lots of shots all at once so we split them up: did some at the 4 year appointment, six months later we did another and completed them at the 5 year appointment.
  • my pedi said we could do them all at 4yr or 5yr or split them up,

    we split them up.

  • 4 years but we did public PreK.  I am glad it is over with.  After her 4 year appointment, which was hard but nothing compared to a finger prick she had to get at 4.5!  DD threw down when she had to have her iron checked.

This. I figured why not, why wait another year when we could just do it then. It sucked but it is going to suck regardless!

  • I don't really think it would have made much difference, but I picked the 4yo visit because I didn't want anything "negative" associated with going to school. Like, "Oh, yay, you get to go to Kindergarten - here's a bunch of needle pricks to celebrate!" I'm sure I put waayyy too much thought into it, but that combined with the just-get-it-over-with sentiment led me to the decision to do it at 4. And now I'm glad I did, as I'm finding that he is getting more and more dramatic in his old age, haha.
  • ours does them at 5.  If I had the choice?  I'd probably wait-I like to put off the inevitable.

aside-I totally remember getting shots right before kindergarten and how much they HURT.
