Babies: 9 - 12 Months

I am LOSING it!

My child hates her carseat so much that she either screams bloody murder from the moment she sees the car until we arrive at our destination or she gags herself (I feel like it is intentional) by sticking her fingers down her throat and pukes! She does this every single day. She goes to daycare at my job. We are half an hour from home. This is how we start every morning and end every day of work. I am reaching a poibt of abslute desperation. I can't take it, Am I alone?? Anyone have any suggestions as to how to keep her happy? I have tried bottle, puffs in a self feeding container, toys, music, singing, my cell phone (LOL) and none of it seems to work.

  • Is she still in an infant seat?  Curly was the same way until we switched him to a convertible car seat.  He LOVES riding in the car now.  I think maybe the difference is that he is able to see out the windows and he's sitting more upright.

    Good luck!!

Yup, still in an infant carseat. My little peabut is so small, not even 20lbs yet. I am thinking about switching her real soon though.  Is your LO front or rear facing in the cinvertible seat?

  • Oh, rear facing, for sure.  I'm going to keep him RF until at least a year, possibly longer.  I haven't decided yet.  Curly is on the other end of the spectrum, though... well over 20 lbs and very, very tall!

  • we only just recently switched ds out of the infant carrier and i have also noticed that he used to inevitably cry when placed in the infant seat, but now he never cries when i put him in the convertible - i think he likes to be able to look around a bit more. he is still rear facing.

  • Every car ride with DD was a nightmare while she was in her infant seat... We switched her to a convertible I think just before 7 months and never looked back! She's so much happier now (she's RFing still) she's really only upset if she's been in the car too much that day, or if she's too tired.

  • I agree with the PPs.  DS got a LOT happier when we switched to the RF convertible seat.  It's in the middle in my car and behind the drivers seat in DH's jeep and he seems to especially like sitting by the window... even though it kind of freaks me out.
  • Man, that would drive me nuts too -hearing DD scream while driving!  I hope things change soon for you.  It sounds like you are trying everything you can.  Maybe try what PP have been saying about switching car seats. GL! :)
