NTTCR: Tempur-pedic Mattress

Anyone have one?  Give me your review on it, please?

The husband and I are seriously considering this mattress (the cloud series) so I'm looking for all the opinions I can get?

Is it really the best sleep you ever had?  How unbearable is the heat factor (I've read it retains heat)?

Thanks!!

Re: NTTCR: Tempur-pedic Mattress

  • We have one, we bought off someone on craigslist. they had it in their extra room as the lady could not sleep on it due to chronic back problem. My husband has had a lot of sleep issues and back aches since we started using it so we are not very thrilled.

It is hot when hot and cold when cold. If that makes sense. Good luck

  • We have one and have had it for about a year.  I have not expereinced any heat issues and it gets about 107-110 here in the summer.  If I had to go back and do it all again I would have spent a bit more money and gone for the next level up which is a little softer.  We went with the 2nd to least expensive one.

What I love is that the bed and the pillows (highly reccomend the pillows) have curbed my husbands snoring greatly.  Also, I don't feel him when he moves around or gets into bed.  Sometimes I don't even know he's come to bed until morning.

Dislike:It took me a good month to get use to it.  I absolutely hated it in the beggining.  It hurt my back and I have read that it's because the pressure points that you are used to in a spring mattress are there anymore.  I wouldn't say I absolutely love the bed but it's good.  It just always seems to firm no give what so ever and I like a firm mattress but this is just too much.

  • Interesting.

If either of you were to buy a new mattress tomorrow any ideas what you would buy instead?

I've heard the T-P is hard....we laid on the cloud series and it seems comfy but laying on it for 2 minutes as opposed to sleeping on it every night for 20 years it not comparable.

  • That's exactly what we said that had could we have known because 20 minutes and an entire night are completely different.

If I could go back in time I would have bought a sleep number bed.  We really liked those when we looked at them.

  • Hiya chicken!!

The hubs and I have one...had it a year now...and we both absolutely LOVE IT!!  Like pp said, highly recommend the pillows to go with it.  I haven't experienced the heat issues either.

Like with any new mattress, it will take your body time to adjust.  Especially since switching from a spring mattress.  I used to toss and turn...now, once I hit the bed - give me about 37 seconds and I'm out.  I sleep thru the night with virtually no tossing and turning, unless I get up for a drink or to pee.  Seriously.

You do have to 'knead' the mattress (and pillows) for about the first 20-30 days...it helps eliminate the odor that comes with it - due to the materials; and I think it may help soften it a bit.  While the mattress is firm, it is still the best mattress purchase we've ever made.

    GL!!

  • Hi Chicken,

Although I have not purchased the mattress, I did have a 4" memory foam topper and I found that because my body (and hubs) generally runs hot, the mattress absorbed the heat and made it unbearable, especially in the summer.  We do not have air conditioning in our apt.

    That's my 2 cents!

  • This is on our list as well - we have a lot of friends that have them and were also considering the sleep number, but H's friend bought that one and they sold it after 3 months and got a Tempur Pedic. The feedback we received is that you get what you pay for - the mattresses in the Tempur collection (the lower price points) are hotter/retain heat. The Tempur HD collection apparently has some sort of ventilation technology to prevent the heat retention experiened with the original Tempur collection. I'm not sure about the Cloud series. Out of all the feedback from the people we know who have them - it seems those with the Rhapsody are happiest so we're going to take a look at that one. Pretty much everyone did say it took about a month to get used to and they didn't like it for the first month, but after that many still say they'd never go back. It's just a different type of support system and takes some getting used to I guess.

  • Well, I had a pretty new queen mattress.  DW (before she moved in) had a Tempur-pedic full size mattress.  We love hers so much that we traded DOWN in size and use hers.

LOVE it.  Never noticed a heat issue.
