(Vent, kinda long) First OB appt today, not what I expected

So I had my first appt with an OB that I have never seen before, I have had a few hassles scheduling with her office but I decided to ride it out and see how the appt went before I make a hard decision. Well this morning DH got a phone call that someone at work had called off and he was going to have to come in and work. I was devastated, I really wanted DH to be there. Well after some finagling he was able to attend the appt with me and let me tell you, boy am I glad that he did! First we get there and it's in the ghetto, the OB's office is located behind the hospital I really want to deliver at, but still it's in the ghetto. We walk in and there is literally a wait a mile long, there were so many people in and out of the office and barely anywhere to sit, but again I say to myself if she is really good, then of course she is going to be busy! I check in and they have me give a urine sample, as I'm heading back to the bathroom (through curtained off patient areas) I'm looking around thinking YIKES...there is just something "off" about this office. I give my sample after 5 different knocks on the bathroom door, I think they need another restroom. I go back to sit in the waiting room and again it is extremely busy and a little on the verge of unprofessional as far as atmosphere goes. I didn?t have to wait long when the intake lady came to get me, we go back to her office she takes my info and tells me that they are only going to perform my blood work today and I will have to wait 3 weeks to see the Dr! It took me almost 12 days to even get a person to call me to get an appt (I should?ve known then!!!), and now I?m gonna have to wait 3 weeks! So then I explained to her that I?ve been having some bleeding the past few days and I?m concerned, she says, ?Well, I can talk to a nurse and see if they can talk to you, but I can?t guarantee anything.? I understand she can?t guarantee that I will talk to someone but she acted like she was even going to try. So DH and I go out to wait for someone to take me back for blood work and while we are sitting there this whole experience is NOT sitting well with DH or I, so DH goes in and tells the lady thanks but no thanks. Things like this are reasons why I am really glad that he came with me, I?m very non-confrontational and I would have just went along with it and b*tched later. So we leave the office with no more accomplished than what we started out with. On the way home I?m more upset than I was earlier because with the bleeding I?m extra worried and I was really hoping for an ultrasound for some piece of mind, so I text my aunt to tell her what happened and she recommends a Dr that she has heard great things about. I call this Dr?s office and within an hour I?m being sent to the lab for blood work and she will call me Monday with the results and to set me up with an early ultrasound! So now it?s just a waiting game until Monday, I was given strict orders to refrain from sex and no lifting of anything over 5 pounds?no picking up SD this weekend. The only drawback for this Dr is that she doesn?t deliver at the hospital that I want, but so far I think I can learn to live with that. I can?t thank my aunt enough for this recommendation!!!

I am sorry that you had to deal with that but it is great that you got to see someone who is obvously a much better dr anyway.  Good luck Monday.

Sounds like you made the right decision.  There's something to be said for a Dr. that's that in demand, however, in an office that busy, I wouldn't feel confident I was getting the attention I deserve.  Hope everything goes well for you on Monday!

With this being such a personal experience, I'd def choose a doctor you are more comfortable with over the hospital (as long as the hospital you will deliver at is decent)
