Progesterone Levels

Hi everyone!

 

I just found out I am pregnant for the second time! I had hormone levels check this morning as I had TTC #2...I am about 4 weeks 3days pg and my progesterone level is 7.2. The nurse who left me a message said that was just about normal, they usually like to see it there or a little higher. She is supposed to call my doctor to see if she wants me on progesterone supplements. I did the worse thing and I googled! Everything I saw said 7.2 is really low! Does anyone know anything about this?

Yes, 7 is low.  Your dr should put you on progesterone supplements.  GL!

Progesterone in Pregnancy
When	Normal Values	What Level Means
Mid-Luteal Phase	5+ ng/ml	As mentioned above, a level of 5 indicates some kind of ovulatory activity, though most doctors want to see a level over 10 on unmedicated cycles, and over 15 with medications. There is no mid-luteal level that predicts pregnancy.
First Trimester	10-90 ng/ml	Average is about 20 at 4 weeks LMP, and 40 at 14 weeks LMP. It is important to note that while a higher progesterone level corresponds with higher pregnancy success rates, one cannot fully predict outcome based on progesterone levels. Progesterone supplementation is unlikely to help if started after a positive pregnancy test.
Second Trimester	25-90 ng/ml	Average is 40 at beginning, 90 at end.
Third Trimester	49-423 ng/ml	Usually peaks at about 175.

My first progesterone level was around 15. I think I was around 5 weeks and a few days (my last LMP is not reliable and was not charting). My RE put me on supplements. She likes to see it above 20. Although, I think she's just extra cautious because she's an RE. 

Try not to stress about it too much, your body is still adjusting and producing all the necessary hormones. You could have a big jump over a short time period. Not to mention progesterone supplements seem to be pretty common. Count yourself lucky to have early monitoring. I'm sure many women have low progesterone and never even know it.

7 seems very low--I always though they wanted it at 20 by 5 wks or so.  Mine was 29 at 4wks.  Although everyone is very different.  I would try asking them about supplements.

It's low, as far as I know. I think the very lowest they like to see is 9 or 10. Definitely get on suppositories.
