Cloth Diapering

Question about covers

Do I need one cover for every one diaper that I have? I have just started my newborn stash. So far I have 21 kissaluvs with one Imse Vimse cover and 4 Bummis Whisper Wraps.

I do plan on adding to my stash, but how many additional covers would you recommend for the kissaluvs?

Re: Question about covers

  • I actually went to a CD workshop this week and the teacher advised to have 1 cover for every 4-6 diapers.

Please correct me if I'm wrong - still trying to get the hang of what I need.

  • I have 6 thirsties duo wraps. Thats more than enough covers. You will need atleast 3 more dipes though.

  • You don't need one cover for every diaper. You can reuse the covers as long as they don't get soiled. You just hang them up to make sure they're dry and don't smell, then put them back on.

    4-6 covers should be good.

  • With a newborn I kept 4 covers handy and that was enough.  If they get damp from pee, just rinse them off and hang them up in the bathroom to dry.  I had about 15-20 prefolds with this and about 2-3 BG with a couple of extra fleece liners.
  • 5-6 covers is enough.  Bummis Whisper wraps aren't the best though b/c they only have 1 gusset so are more prone to leaking.  Thirsties XS & Bummis Superbrite are great for NB phase.  Both have double gussets (we never had 1 leak with either type) & the Bummis are the smallest for NB phase.  Even the Thirsties XS were big at first on E & she was over 8 lbs.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.

I disagree. We didn't have a single leak with BSWW's, either.

  • Thank you! I will post my newborn stash looking for advice, once I add some more to it.
