As I come close to leaving you all for the 2nd trimester board, I am reflecting on what I have learned here. Please add what you have learned/are learning too.
1) Most of us LOVE our cheeses and/or deli meat, and get panicky about possibly having to give it up for 9 months (PASTEURIZED IS FINE, and NUKE IT IF YOU ARE WORRIED ABOUT LISTERIA). It's funny that not so many people seem to be worried about eating fish.
2) Every one of us is nervous that we will m/c, and can get a bit freaked out about every little thing to the point of self-consumption, until one of our fellow first tri Bumpettes actually experiences that heartbreaking loss and we are left trying to put into words how much we care. I have seen the kindest and most sincere replies in response to this. When all is said and done, we all are scared, and we all want each other to have a H&H pregnancy.
3) MUD (Made Up Drama) are cries for help from sociopathic megalomaniacs and/or bored kids in study hall. Neither really merit a reply.
4) Anyone who chooses to use more than one ticker for this particular pregnancy is going to hear it in spades by some of the veteran posters here at this site. I am still unsure why it sends so many into a tizzy, but I never suffered their wrath as I felt more than one to be redundant. Still... to each her own.
5) I know of a few posters now by screen name that always make me laugh, a few that always piss me off, and a few that always leave me scratching my head in disbelief. It will be fun to see if I think everyone stays categorized as such by the time we all are ready to move to the parenting boards, and beyond.
6) If you say "preggo" you will be told you are not a spaghetti sauce.
7) Everyone of us here can stand up for what we think is right, and this includes to our mother in laws, husbands, sisters, cow-irkers, and even our doctors. If you really have an issue with someone, talk through it logically and without getting petty. You'd be surprised that sometimes you can get what you want without creating WWIII. And, at other times, you may find that a slight concession made by you will get you past whatever drama you are facing, freeing you up to concentrate on more important things.
8)Your brother's neighbor's third cousin twice removed should not demand to be in the delivery room with you.
9) CALL YOUR DOCTOR. If you are worried for any reason, you are spotting, you are losing a lot of weight, can't stop throwing up, or even if you have a hangnail that you really think is troubling you about this pregnancy - THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE THERE FOR. Don't worry about seeming stupid, and don't you dare assume you know (or that any of us would know, for that matter) what they would say, because you don't.
10) We'll never all agree about if it is ok to dye our hair before the second trimester.
Bonus 11) Some people here are extraordinarily helpful, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you have selflessly shared.
Re: The Top 10 things I have learned from the 1st Tri Board
Pretty much sums it up! lol
12. People get touchy about the 'difference' between bloat and a bump. I don't CARE what kind of tissue it is. I'm pregnant and my belly is round, so I'm a happy girl!
Regarding your number one-- you don't have it quite accurate. Even if cooked, unpasteurized cheese is still not okay to eat. Sorry to be nit-picky, but my doctor said that one of her patients recently lost her pregnancy because of listeria from unpasteurized blue cheese.
Owen Anders: labor (natural onset), failed VBAC, emergency c/s.

She was referring to the deli meat when she said "if you're worried about it, nuke it."
I just peed a little. Thanks
I never held you, but I always loved you.
Baby Squirt- September 2009
Baby Turtle- May 2010
Baby Surprise- August 2011
Good list.
What I have learned is stay away from the Internet because everyone becomes a freaked out hypochondriac when it comes to the smallest symptom.
I have also learned that everyone's body is different. Some gain a lot of weight in the beginning while others lose weight. But in the end...everyone catches up.
This.
Thanks for the laugh!
TTC #1 Since July 2009 slightly low progesterone, endo, kinked right tube, Clomid, Lap and Hysteroscopy, and 13 months TTC = BFP! (7/23/10) Cautiously Expecting... 8/19/10 - it's TWINS!... 11/8/10 - Boy/Girl twins! Born 37w4d
I might just put that in my siggy.
Quite right - my #12 should read: "Google has never been pregnant nor has it had any children. You are better off to consult your doctor."
Well said! See you over in the second Tri -- next week baby!!!
