sleep training methods

When trying to sleep train your LO what sleep training method do you follow? Ferber or another one? TIA for all your input:)

Re: sleep training methods

  • I know a lot of people on here do Ferber and have found success, but my pedi said skip that because many children are really confused by you going in and not picking them up.(I have not read the book so I am not sure of the exact method.) My pedi recommended after 6 months when they physically do not need to eat at night anymore is to let them cry it out- because at that point they are mostly waking out of habit. He said he might cry for one hour or more the first few nights but dont go in or you will start the one hour over. I did this, watching him on the monitor and standing outside of his room at times- he woke up and cried 3-4 nights in a row, usually no more than 20 minutes and now for over 5 weeks has been sleeping through the night (even when he had a double ear infection a few weeks a go which shocked the doctor). Our neighbors who have triplets  a few years older than our son go to the same pedi and told us he would tell us this method around 6 months. They did it wiht their 3 girls all at once and it worked for them too.

There are many methods out there- find one you are comfortable with and good luck!
