We put my DS on the waiting list at a local private school. They just called and said they had an opening and he can start next week. School has only been in for a week here.
Would you move your child to the better school or leave him? I'm torn because the private school is awesome and has so many more opportunities but he's aleady been going to public school for a week?
Advice? Thoughts?
Re: Transfer?
Its only been a week, so he won't likely miss anything at the new school that he can't just catch up. My only concern would be if he's not emotionally wanting to switch. Does he have friends at the current school, how old is he, did he have a rough first week so far?
As long as he is eager to switch I would do it.
He is five. He said he has a few friends but never tells me their names. He hasn't really had a rough week to be honest.
We had toured this school over the summer because it was our first choice. I'm not too fond of the public schools here. He got wait listed so we just went ahead with public. So, he had thought he was going to the private school in the first place. We talked about switching schools and going and how he wouldn't ride the bus anymore, etc. He asked me today if he was going to his "new" school so I don't think emotionally it will do anything. It's only been a week and I'm sure he doesn't have a lifelong kindergarten friend yet.

They said sometimes kids register than don't show up and they wait about a week or two before contacting people on the waitlist. She said only two kids, one from each Kindy class, never showed. Could have been an issue with the cost or the parents didn't get financial aid.
I think I've made the decision to move him now. I'm just waiting on some paperwork from the church that has to be turned in with his admissions packet.
Here, you pay $100 registration fee (which you loose obviously if you don't show) than you pay the tuition monthly. I'm sure you can pay for it all up front but it's not required. That's just the way the school is run based on the info they gave me. I don't run the place but I'm sure if varies by state and school.
The finanical aid takes three weeks they said. The deadline was back in March, I believe?
Truthfully, I don't really care why some kids didn't show up.
I've heard nothing but good things about this school. I'm just really glad he got in. I'm hoping that he can start next week!
