new cerclage

I just had cerclage surgery yesterday.  Everything went well I think.  I was put totally out for the procedure and when I woke up in recovery the doctor was already gone.

The nurses gave me some paperwork and discharged me after about an hour or so and they booked me an appointment with my doctor but it is not for a whole month.  I would have expected a sooner follow up appointment.  Is that normal?

Also, can anyone tell me how they felt physically after the surgery?  I am achy ALL OVER!  my back, my neck, my legs.

I've googled as much as I can but I can't really find any information for anything after the surgery.

Thanks for the help.

Re: new cerclage

  • I have to say I'd be thinking about switching doctors if my doctor didn't check in on me after I woke up from a surgical procedure.  After I had my cerclage, once I was in recover and awake, my doctor came to check on me, and told me to make a follow up appt. for 2 weeks.  She also informed me about all the aches and pains and discomfort I'd be in.  I was on indocin for 48 hours and percocet as well.  The pain pretty much subsided in about 3 days.

  • I have to say, I agree with cbkittner!  I had a cerclage yesterday and I had great care.  My doctor wants to see me within the next two weeks.  Find yourself a doctor who cares about their patients and their well-being!  You AND baby are both worth it!!!!
  • I had a cerclage placed on Tuesday and I am seeing my doc next Wednesday!    I had a spinal so he was talking to me on and off through the procedure and asked me several times if I had questions before he left afterwards.  I would look into a new doctor.  A month after cerclage seems like a long time to wait!
  • I went to the doctor 10 days after my cerclage back in May.  I would call and see about scheduling an earlier appointment.  After the procedure, I was told to stay out of work for 3 days.  And I am so glad I did.  I was pretty achy for those 3 days and feeling much better by the 4th.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the advice.  Got a phone call today with a follow up appointment for two weeks :)
