Grabbing when tandem feeding

I'm having a really hard time when tandem feeding. My girls are constantly grabbing, pulling, pinching and twisting my breasts when eating. They're also grabbing and pulling each others ears, eyes, etc. I try to hold their hands, but they just pull away. I can't give them something else to fiddle with or it distracts them from eating. Any suggestions on how to stop this? It really hurts!

Re: Grabbing when tandem feeding

  • I have no experience tandem nursing but my son was the same way. All of the girls on my local board recommended a nursing necklace (I would assume you would need 2). It was this huge bead/ring thing that keeps the babies occupied.

  • We go through phases of that. When we're in a "good" phase they just hold hands while they nurse. It is so cute! But we also go through phases like you described above. I try and make sure that I go to a quiet room. That cuts down on a lot of our issues. I can't have the TV on or they are constantly unlatching to see what's going on and I can't eat a snack either. They are fascinated with real food these days.

If they are grabbing each other I sometimes use a rolled up receiving blanket to make a "wall" in between their heads. Sometimes I just talk to them to keep their attention off of each other or using my boobies for grabbing practice!

  • My girls are doing this now.  It's like they are on 10 seconds, off 2, on 10 off 2... so distracted by each other.  If we are just hanging at home for the day I nurse them separately now.  I am going to try the blanket in between, maybe it will help.  I don't know what to do to stop them from grabbing and twisting and pinching me, but at least I can maybe get them to eat faster by not distracting each other Huh?
  • I would also suggest a nursing necklace (or any kind of necklace) just something for them to fidgit with.  Or are they attached to blankets at all?  What about those taggie blankets that have little tags on them for them to rub, touch, play with while nursing?

  • Thanks for the suggestions! I think a necklace(s) will work perfectly. They're constantly fidgeting with my hair, shirt, bra strap, etc. that they will love this. I'll try  the blanket too, but I think we may have played too many games of peek-a-boo for them to leave it alone :)
