Since Evan HATES solids (except on one rare occasion when he ate pears and hasn't wanted them since) the Pedi suggested making our own baby food. I hate forcing him and he gets more on him (and me) than in his mouth.
I know there are several nesties that make baby food so I was hoping to get some good advice or links to web sites. Tonight I am going to start with some mashed avocado. At least I'll eat it if he doesn't. :-)
Oh and if I find one or two things he will eat, is it okay to give him the same thing every day? I know I would get tired of it, but I don't think he will.

Re: Making baby food
totally okay to give him the same stuff over and over - after all, he's been drinking just bm and/or formula for six months now.
The website I used most often was Wholesome Baby Food

Good point, Kat. Evan LOVES his milk! So if we find something he likes we will stick with it, but still try new things.
Thanks, Kimmer. Excellent idea about the frozen veggies. That will really help if I am in a time crunch. Oh, and once Evan gets mobile, I'll ping you about the mom's group.

I 3rd Wholesome baby food website. Have you tasted the premade food, it is rather awful. They all seem to taste the same. I still do get DS a coupl eof brands but use that more when we go out over the weekends. (PLum and Ella brands) I also try to get what's in season fruit and veggie wise. I've been hitting the katy market and making what i find there. We also use herbs and spices.
Is there any interest in your food when you are eating? Are you feeding him or having him try to feed himself. Sometimes kids just want to do it themselves or my DS still prefers us to feed him for the most part, though he does get some fingerfoods.
He loves to watch us eat. And I gave him a Baby Mum Mum teething cracker, it is basically a rice cake, and he took it and was eating it, then he realized that it tasted like a rice cake and spit it out. It was really funny.
I have tried letting him feed himself, and he likes to chew on the spoon, but hates the food on it. I don't agree with the doctor to force him to eat, but I do think we will have better luck with homemade food. Evan was sick last night so we didn't try any solids, but I think we will try avocados tonight.

First I would definitely not force him to eat, I think that's just going to create a power struggle and make him hate meal time which will just continue to create issues with food. Second I would probably take a few days off and then start over fresh with the avocados. When we first started solids w/ Cooper (when he was around 5 mos) he really didn't eat much at all. He'd take a bite or two and that was it. It was at least a month before he would actually eat. I would offer (and usually he'd open his mouth for the first bite) then if he refused that was it, we tried again the next day. Let him lead, he'll eat when he's ready. If he's gaining weight and healthy--which he looks perfect in your sig pic-- then don't sweat it.
As for making baby food, I used the Wholesome baby food website. We started w/ avocado, sweet potatoes, bananas, pears, carrots etc. But I also buy some foods, and there are good foods available. I've tasted everything I've bought for him and frankly I thought the Gerber and other jarred foods were nasty. I really like the Plum Organics brand (it comes in squeezable pouches) and it's pretty tasty and all organic etc. I also buy unsweetened organic apple sauce (only ingredients are organic apples and water) because it's just not worth my time to core and bake and blend apples. My hourly rate is a lot more than the cost of apple sauce.
Good luck, and try not to stress yourself out about it. He'll get the hang of it in his own time.
Wonderful advice! Oh, and I agree with it not being worth the time to make apple sauce.

Cooper ate the stuff I made, but was never a fan of the jars. He would flat out refuse to finish them.
Also try bananas since you don't have to cook those. You could bake a sweet potato for yourself and just mash up a little for him without wasting a whole potato.
We pretty well rotate the same foods over and over. Peas, apples, banans, peachs, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, mango.
In the beginning I'd steam them and run them through the food processor. Now I use a cheap immersion blender most of the time.
ETA: LIke the pps said - don't force it. Coop loves to be spoon fed, but he's just so-so on eating regular food himself. He'll flip out over mum mums and puffs, but when it comes to pieces of avacado or chicken he takes three bites and wants pureed squash.
