I know some of you girls have made tutus for your little girls. Care to share instructions? I am the least creative person I know, but I really wanna make her one for her first birthday. Or should I say at least attempt one. Thanks ladies.
I've made a couple for Aubrey. They are fairly easy to make.
I just buy those rolls of tulle that Hobby Lobby sells in their fabric dept. They have 25 yards on them and they are usually 2.99 a piece. They do put them half off as well on occasion.
I usually do 2 `colors so I'll buy one of each color I want. Then I buy some elastic, or you can use ribbon. You will cut the elastic/ribbon to your fit your LO's waist. I then hand sewed the elastic at the ends to make it a circle. Some people use staples instead.
Then I cut the tulle in 28 inch pieces. Then I take the 28 inch pieces and cut then in half up the middle of the tulle. That will give you 3 inch across strips rather than 6 inches which is how they come. But you can leave them 6 inches if you'd like...I haven't tried that yet, but I might on the next one I make to see the difference.
After that I just slip the elastic around my leg up to my thigh, and I sit there tying the pieces on, alternating colors, while watching tv. The best way I can explain to tie them is to take the strip of tulle, find the middle of it and put that on the elastic and then take the tulle literally knotting it up at the top but don't tighten them to tight or the elastic will bunch. You'll just have to gauge it. You should be able to slide the pieces on the elastic but you need it tight enough that Bri can't take it off if she were to mess with it.
You can google how to make a tutu and it'll give you a couple of good sites and they can show you how to tie the tulle onto the elastic/ribbon. Another way I have tried it is to tie it in a slip knot.
I hope I was of some help and didn't completely confuse you I'm attaching a picture of one I made her recently. If you have any questions feel free to ask.
I added the blue ribbon after I made the tutu...but the waist is actually elastic. I just wrapped the waist with the ribbon afterward. I'm definitely not a pro at this lol, and I wish I could figure out how those girls on etsy make them look so cute and full but I figure for 6 bucks of material it'll do Especially since they charge 20 dollars a lot of times on etsy for them. Have you seen those petit skirts people are making now? They are so cute and if I knew how to sew I'd so be trying that!
