Every since I was little and realized that my grandmothers name was in fact Isabelle and not Grandma I feel in love with it. I used to say if I ever had a girl I wanted to use Isabelle, but honestly I couldn't do it now being I was a Jennifer in the 80/90's era. To honor my grandmother I may still use Belle or Isabelle for a middle name but not a first.
I have loved the name Madeline since I was a little girl, but I'm afraid she'd get lost in a sea of Madisons. I might still talk myself into it, though
I love that no one wants to name their daughter Olivia...less Olivia's I have to worry about
That being said, we do not know another Olivia besides mine!
Ahahahahaha! This cracked me up because that's us too! My DH and I keep secretly LOVING that no one will use it anymore since it's so overused but we actually know no one with the name.

For boys, we did end up with very popular names b/c that's all we could agree on, but Ethan was another top contender but even higher on the list and that's what kept us from using it. Otherwise I think we would've done Will and Ethan instead of Will and Alex.
We both adore Joshua/Josh and would've used it despite the popularity, but both my sister's son and DH's BFF's son (who is DH's godson) are already named that. Boo.
DH's great grandmother is Emma Mathilde. I would love to name a baby for her, but would probably go with Mathilde over Emma because of the popularity factor.
I feel different about boys' names ? there are 5 generations of Benjamins in my family and I would use it in a heartbeat, popularity be damned.
Actually, if I ever have a boy, I might do Alexander anyway, popularity be d***ed.
I really think it's a regional thing. For instance, I have never seen all these baby Nevaeh (or Abigail) but I can't shake a stick at a local playground without hearing Sophia or Ava or Olivia.
DH just loves the name Aiden. I actually do really like it, and it's the name of a band we both really like. DH suggested it even before we were engaged, so I guess maybe I'm sentimental about it somehow.
Re: What name would you consider using if it wasn't "too popular"?
For girls: Emma and Olivia.
For boys: Jacob.
Love Emma!
I also love Ava...and I know it's probably too popular but we might go with it anyways

True that.
And ahem...what about us??
Other than you. But you do love that that they all love "our" name! Now if we could only come up with another perfect girl's name!
We didn't realize Emma was that popular in our area. As soon as we had her we started hearing of several kids with the name Emma Grace..
Oh well. IT is still a beautiful name
Jacob or Jackson...:( Every other boy now adays has one of these names and they are the only two J names my DH and I agree on.
Sigh...

Isabel and Jackson
Might still use Isabel though... Love the nn Izzy
Emma or Emily, Ava
Jacob (I still might use this one though, popularity be darned)
I've already got a Sophie, so clearly popularity doesn't kill a name for me.
For girls, Olivia and Sophia.

Oh yeah, also Lily, Madeline and Jack.

Emily and Jacob.
Though...I don't really care about popularity. I personally know 1 little girl named Emily and 1 boy named Jacob (he's 10).
