Why is it that people that have NEVER tried to cloth diaper are always the ones to tell you what a horrible idea it is?! So frustrating. I do not say anything rude to people that choose disposables, so why do they feel the need to say something rude to me??
The only person who has actually said something positive about it was my mother, who coincidently is the only person I've talked to that has CD'ed (and this was back when it was "hard", flat diapers that you had to fold, pin, soak, etc.)
Re: CD Vent.
May I ask why it didn't work out? I really would like the pros/cons from people that actually have real life experience... just so I know what I am getting into.
I don't even get into the environment discussion. I tell them how much money I DON'T spend on sposies, and most think its worth trying.
However, in our case, my fabulous Nana made them all free of cost, so there wasn't even the initial spending up front. I also do use sposies overnight (only way to prevent him from waking up every hour) and on long car trips, etc.
But even if we did have the initial overhead, I would still have gone for it. I couldn't imagine spending $40+/month for 2+years. Yikes!?
I'd love to try it, but I'll be a working mom and I don't want to burden those who are watching my son with the CDs. My husband and I went back and forth on it for a while, but it just doesn't seem to be working out.
My parents did CDs as well, the old school ones. The CDs now are amazing! Good luck and good for you! Go for it!
When you have kids and/or expecting one, you're a terrible parent, no matter what you do. If you raise your child differently than I do/would mine, you are invalidating my vision that I am/would be the best mommy ever.
We're also CD to save $$ so I can SAH. I'm personally glad not to have to deal with the folding, pins, etc though that moms in past generations did.
So what brand are you using? We're still researching...
haha. love it.?
I found that I couldn't keep up with the cleaning and laundry. I also watch my niece and nephew and it was just so much easier to change a diaper and toss it right away- not having to deal with the after process.
I would just chalk it up to ignorance on their part. Certainly mentioning the amount of cash you'll be saving even on a single child is a great validation, saving the earth is just an added bonus (to some this is even more important).
We're just now transitioning our 20 month to cds. I just bought my first stash this week and I can't wait for Friday for our first diaper delivery. I am sorry that I waited till my second to do this. Imagine how much money I would have saved if I had started with my first! Good luck with CDing and don't forget the boards as they are you're wealth of knowledge plus they understand some of the...(occassional) bias against moms that are CDing.
I would just look at them, dead-pan, and say, "Oh no, I can't believe you feel that way! I was going to ask you to act as our diaper service." The optional follow-up of "because you're full of..." depends on your mood.
LMFAO!!!
I suppose I just didn't tell people about our choice until we were already doing it. I'm fortunate enough that no one I know was rude enough to be nay-sayers.
My husband is a close minded individual on this. I'm taking him to a lady who has a lot of them so he can see, touch and ask his own questions.
I'm sold. I want to save money!!!
