TTC After a Loss

super low temp

So I hope I'm not asking a silly question. But here goes...

I got AF yesterday and started to temp this morning. I want to make a go of this the right way with a fresh cycle available to me. My temp at 6am this morning was 95.2. I'm not even on the chart I have. It stops at 96.

Does this seem a bit low? Anyone else out there in the 95s? I did a little research and it said at 95.0 or below one should contact a doctor or emergency room. hahaha!

Re: super low temp

  • AF temps are usually a little weird, but sometimes super low temps means a problem with your thyroid. Have you gotten that checked out?

  • well when I was in for the first pregnancy visit in July they said they tested for any thyroid issues. The doc said everything came back normal with no problems.

I also woke poor DH up to test him, and he was at 97 something. so the actual thermometer was working.

thanks for the suggestion though, i had no idea that's what a low temp could be connected to.

  • If that's the only time you had a temp that low, I would chalk it up to BBT error. If you consistently get such a low temp, definitely ask your doctor.

  • Before you panic, check the temp on your bbt against a fever thermometer.  My bbt tends to run about a degree lower than my fever thermometer.

Also, it sounds like you are using paper charts??  If so, check out fertility friend through anyone's ticker or fertiltyfriend.com.

  • well i started to half-way chart (forgetting to do so many mornings) back in May/June.

I was always between 95's and 96's. I don't remember hitting 97. my mom said she always has a low body temp, and when she was charting to get KU with me, her temps were the same as mine. She said her doc told her it's b/c she had such a great metoblism. I'm not sure if mine is as good. She was 5'5 and 100lbs. I'm a little bit more than that... hehe.

I'm contacting the doc now just to find out if we need to address this.

  • Wow, that's .2 degrees away from hypothermia!  It does seem quite low, but I would wait to see if they are continually that low before I would worry at all.

  • Hmm, I've definitely had temperatures that low and reading some of the responses, I'm getting worried myself. Normally, my baseline is like 96.8 or so, but the cycle I got my BFP and the cycle before that, I actually have a quite a few 95.4ish temps.

  • I have low temps quite often and have found that is just what is normal for me.  You have to remember, you are taking your resting temp, it goes up pretty quickly once you're up and about so it's not as though it would be that low in the middle of the day.

Since low temps can be a sign of hypothyroidism it certainly wouldn't hurt to get that check out.  Oh, and find out if last time your doc just checked out TSH or did a full thyroid panel since just testing TSH can sometimes not tell the entire story.

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
