2nd Trimester

anyone else with placenta previa at 13 weeks?

When for our NT scan yesterday and baby was perfect, moving, playing with the cord, sticking its hands in its mouth! So awesome to see s/he moving around so much and not even feel it! I was told I have placenta previa but that it is common to have this around this time since at 13 weeks there is no where else really for the placenta to go. Dr said it usually moves up on its own and will do another sono in a month. Until then pelvic rest :( On a good note we will get to find out the gender sooner than we thought (if baby cooperates!) I

Any one els had/have this? what was your outcome?

Re: anyone else with placenta previa at 13 weeks?

  • The outcome depends a lot on the level of previa.

And there are plenty of places for the placenta to implant instead.  Mine is anterior.

  • both times, and both times it moved up by my 20 week ultrasound.  I was never put on pelvic rest though.  My dad is a radiologist and he said many, women have placental previa up until the 20th week....he said its extremely common because the baby and the area isn't all that big yet so it needs time to grow.

  • I found out about mine at 13 weeks. At my 18 week ultrasound it hadn't moved yet, but the doctor said in most cases it will and that everything should be fine. He hasn't said anything about what would happen if it doesn't, or even mentioned having another ultrasound, but until then I'm staying positive that everything will be fine.
  • SIL was diagnosed with previa pretty early. They did ultrasounds every few weeks and helped her plan for a c-section. At 36 weeks they found that it had moved. (Moving often happens earlier, but at this late stage they were pretty surprised.) She ended up having an easy vaginal delivery.

Rest, and wait and see. GL!

  • Thanks. My dr. said they move up on there own 95% of the time so im not too worried. I am ok with a C-section if I have to have one but it is my first baby I kinda want to experiance a vaginal birth at least once lol. I havent had any bleeding yet but our 1st anniversary is saturday..and I'm on pelvic rest. Happy anniversary to us! lol At least the baby is doing perfect.

  • I had partial previa w/ DS.  Don't remember if it was discovered before or after 13 weeks (I had bleeding from it).  It moved up by itself and wasn't an issue.

  • I do/did.  My placenta was completely covering my cervix as of my 12 week sono.  On Friday, when we had to have an emergency sono because of a light flow, we found out that my placenta is doing what it is supposed to be doing and is moving.  Now it is next to my cervix.  We found out about it at 6 weeks 4 days, and have been on pelvic rest since 5 weeks 2 days because of the spotting.  The spotting has been caused by the placenta, and the light flow on Friday was from the dear placenta moving.  I have a very healthy baby in there.  I know that it is hard to believe, but you kinda get used to the spotting.  It mostly happens during a bm, and then it is gone.  I have another sono (my anatomy scan) in 3 weeks where we will also check on the placenta's progress.

  • We were told we had placenta previa at our 10 week ultrasound...by our week 17 ultrasound it had completely moved out of the way and into an acceptable area.  We too were on pelvic rest from week 10 until 17.  We just had another scan last Friday at 20 weeks and it's still out of the way.  They said it's highly unlikely it would shift down again.

My Dr. too said that typically they move out of the way before the 1/2 way point in the pregnancy...nothing to be concerned about until much later in the pregnancy if it doesn't move.

    Good Luck!
