Question for all of you pre e ladies. Do you think that time of year you had your DD/DS made your pre e worse or better? Did the sex of you baby have anything to do with it (I've heard it's more common if you are having a boy). Did you get pre-e with your 2nd, and was it worse or better?
I'm asking because we are trying again. I had pre e with my DS, but not till 37 wks. They day they told me I had it was the day I was induced. I'm very freaked out to have a due date in summer so I'm just wondering what everyone has to say. Thanks!
Re: Pre e ladies?
I don't think time of year or gender affect it.
was much worse with dd.... earlier... I felt rotten throughout the pg, but really was slammed with full on pe symptoms by 32wks. she was my #1. dd was a winter baby
was later, not til 37wk, mild with ds (although I had worse m/s with him). he's #2. ds was an early fall baby
I think it is different with everyone. First PG i had "sudden" severe onset at almost 36 weeks and was delivered the next day. My second pregnancy I really think I would have had it again just because when our daughter was delivered at 22 weeks I got pregnant again right away and BP was already at 6 weeks high. Third pregnancy i had protein show up at 24 weeks and it seemed like I was always being sent over to the hospital. At 33 weeks I was hospitalized and delivered at 34 weeks. So for me it set on earlier the second time I had it.
DS was the "sudden" severe onset, DD was the early onset that got worse and worse. with DD i to felt miserable the entire pregnancy and had a feeling it was going to happen again just by how i felt all the time. DS was a winter baby as well and DD was just born in August.
NICU nurse did make a mention though that during hurricane season because of the low pressure they see a lot more cases of preemies being born every year didn't specify about pre e vs anything else though.
Didn't make a difference for me. DS was born in the fall. DD was born in the summer- when it was 95 degrees.
With DS, I got it at 35 weeks and by 36 weeks, I had HELLP and had an emergency c-section.
With DD, they monitored me so closely that the minute I had protein in my urine (28 weeks), I was put on modified bedrest. The minute my BP went up to 140/90 at 33 weeks, I was put in the hospital (for 3 weeks) before I delivered at 36 1/2 weeks on July 20th. Those 3 weeks were very relaxing and my BP and protein levels actually went down a bit. Who knows what would have happened if I stayed at home in 95 degree heat working full time and chasing after a toddler. I suspect it would not have turned out as well as it did.
My doctor said there was no proof of any connection between the heat and pre-e but most of the panicked phone calls he gets are pregnant women after they've gotten off the very hot subway during the summer. He didn't want that to be me. If you are worried about pre-e during the summer, just have the doctor monitor you closely and do a self-imposed or doctor ordered bedrest if necessary. My experience was so much better the 2nd time around- even though it was summer- because of the drastic measures we took. It's definitely worth it!
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
My severe pre-e/HELLP baby (DS1) was born at the end of February. DS2, my PIH baby, was born at the end of November. It could be a coincidence, but my pre-e with DS1 developed at the same time that I got a horrible upper-respiratory flu (similar to H1N1). As the flu got worse, the pre-e got worse. The whole situation was a mess. I was working outside the home at the time and in a work environment where I was exposed to all kinds of nasty bugs. With DS2, I was a SAHM, he was born before the real start of cold/flu season, and I made certain to wash hands frequently and really try and avoid illness. Even DH took a shower when he got home from work (he's a teacher) before kissing/hugging DS1 and I. I did manage to avoid a pre-e diagnosis with DS2, but my blood pressure was high and proteins were starting to rise when he was delivered.
That could all be my experience, but I swear the flu I had made the pre-e worse. My bod just went spaz from dealing with the illness.
