So I'm back from my gyno appointment and when I told him we had been TTC for 14 mo. he said he wants to give it a couple more months before we run any tests.  He wants to wait for the 18 mo. mark.  Everything I've read online said 12 mo is plenty.  Maybe b/c I have longer cycles (31-39 days)?  Because I'm young (24 years old)?  But I all I did was nod b/c I was on the verge of tears and I hate confrontation.  I had brought charts and everything.  He did say tho everything looked good (uterus, ovaries, etc).  I was all amped up to get the ball rolling to figure out what is going on.  *pouts* End Vent.

 PS Does anyone have a good RE or fertillity center they know/like in the DC or Richmond areas (I live halfway between both)?

Check out Shady Grove Fertility. 

On one hand it could be too early... but on the other it's fair and responsible for you to manage your own health!  We pursued testing and review after 12 months and did find a problem.  Sadly, you never know.

However, I hope you don't end up having to hang around here!! Good luck!

Check out Shady Grove.  they have them all over the DC area. I have been very pleased with mine.

My cycle has been 32 to 25 days -- my OB both times has said 12 mos. We couldnt go to the clinic with out a referral though - however we have HMO insurance....check out ShadyGrove online -- you may be able to get in without a referral...not positive though.

I'm sorry about your disappointing visit - please head over to an RE and get started! And don't let anyone try to use your age as a reason to delay things - 12 months or more is already more than enough time!

it is your body-my ob/gyn told me 2 years- and I said NO! We went after 11 months- and I am 31...DH is 33...

Everything I read says seek help if after trying 1 year if you are under 35 and if you are 35 or older after trying 6 months...

I am glad We went in 2 weeks we have gone from not knowing to some sort of a diagnosis...

Definitely find someone else!  My doc wanted me to wait until 18 mo of trying and then when I went to the RE they said I had diminished reserve and we had to get on it right away.  Wish I would have gone in sooner...

I agree with pp's!  If you don't need a referral, call and make an RE appointment yourself and don't wait for your GYN!  One year is plenty of time, especially if you are charting...  Best of luck!

If you don't want to wait, don't.  It's your life and your body.  My obyn tried to make us wait which we did for awhile before I found our RE but I feel like we wasted a lot of time.  GL!

If I could do anything differently with the whole ttc and IF process it would have been to follow my gut and follow up with a RE at the 12 month mark if not sooner.

Shady Grove is great.  There's also Dominion Fertility in the DC area and I'm sure others in VA know of fertility centers closer to Richmond.

Your gyn sounds like my first one....frustrating. I know that they mean well, but it is your body and you know it better than any doctor. It doesn't matter what your age is - if you've been trying for over a year, it's time for further testing. Good luck on making the decision that's best for you!!
