we started DS on cereal a little over a week ago and the 1st couple of times he seemed to really like it and did pretty good. I was feeding him mid-day but decided to switch to dinner. The last couple of times i have fed him he is crying almost the entire time but it's confusing b/c he grabs the spoon and opens his mouth like he wants to eat. It's like i can't get it to him fast enough. I am not sure if that's why he is crying or he is crying b/c he doesn't like it. Should i switch it back to mid-day hold off for a couple weeks and then try again what would you do?
Re: all of the sudden crying while eating solids?
This.
She would cry because I wasn't spooning it in fast enough, she was starving and wanted to hurry up and eat and I wasn't going fast enough.
Now, in the AM I get her up (or she wakes up, whichever) and I feed her a bottle within 20-30 minutes, then I wait about 30 minutes and give her her fruit (I had been waiting about an hour to an hour and a half so the solids were smack in the middle between two bottles). Then, she has her next bottle 3-3.5 hrs. after the first, and on until dinner time. At her dinner time bottle I will feed her her bottle, wait about 30-45 minutes and then feed solids. This seems to work pretty well for us.
Since he's pretty new to this, late in the day may be bothering his digestive system. I'd stick with morning or early afternoon feedings when their systems run better.
Also, it's possible that he simply isn't ready. There's a lot of research out there that says it's helpful to way till 6 months.
We always feed DS his solids after he has a bottle because if we do it before he usually gets frustrated because he's hungry and wants food as fast as possible. We aren't feeding him enough food for it to be for nutritional purposes so right now it's just for practice and to get his body used to the food.
I would feed him after his bottle and not before, that way he's not upset because he's hungry.
