DH had a pretty severe case of ambliopia as a child (layman's term = lazy eye). It was almost 100% corrected because of early detection which prompted many years of eye patching and and corrective exercises and glasses. Because of that it has been important for us to make sure Jack was checked out between 6-9mo.
He went this morning and I was totally amazed at how much they can check, even in a squirmy baby. I'm sure experiences could differ between doctors and offices but the place we went was amazing. They had it all down to an art by using toys. 1 doctor and 2 helpers got him through a whole host of tests. And once I was there I found out that the whole exam is covered by a program called "InfantSEE" so it was FREE And for being such a good boy he got a free pair of babybanz (this really probably varies between offices, but still... worth a try). And, the best news of all - BOTH of his eyes seem really strong and are definitely working together so they have no concerns at this point.
Sooooo, especially if you have any concerns, but even if you don't (from the website it looks like they want to see ALL babies 12 mo and under) it is definitely worth checking out. As always, ask around to see if any one doctor comes up with a good reputation for infant exams.
