Growth Percentile Concern

My daughter's 2 month check-up was yesterday. The doc was extremely happy with how she's growing and her feeding schedule. He mentioned that she has such delicate features and he doesn't forsee her being a big girl. So here's where my concern comes in- I googled (bad, I know) her growth percentiles. At birth she was at the 25th percentile for height, weight, and head circumference. Now, she's at the 25th percentile for weight and height, but below 5% for head circumference.

Do I need to be worried about her head size, or, because the doc never said anything in our discussion about her size, am I just having a new mother freak-out moment over nothing?? I have a call in with the doc, but I'd appreciate any thoughts you have.

P.S. I know you have no idea who I am, but I'm just not a fan of the month boards so I thought I'd ask here.

Re: Growth Percentile Concern

  • I'm sure your doctor will let you know if there's cause for concern.

  • If your doctor didn't seem concerned, I wouldn't worry.  Or on the flip side, go see a different pediatrician for a second opinion.

  • cowgirl (over on PAL) had the same issue with her little girl. Her doc did follow up with it by taking x-rays- precautionary only. All is fine, her girl's head is just small.

This is good advice.  If you trust your Dr and he didn't seem worried, I wouldn't worry.  But if you're nervous, get a second opinion.  GL!

  • I wouldn't worry unless the doc is worried.  At the 4 month check, as where LO measures up.

Plus- those can be way off.  A cm here or there makes a huge difference percentage wise and babies are squirmy.

Thank you! I'll try to find her and talk to her about this.

Logically, my brain knows that the doc would have said something yesterday if he was concerned. Something about being a parent makes me second guess and worry about EVERYTHING! :)
