Generic Lovenox Ins. ?

Hi ladies, I went to pick up my lovenox yesterday and they filled it with generic. I told them I didn't want generic so they are reordering it for me. I have a few clients that are drs. that told me they will never take a generic drug themselves. The total went from 670 to 1850 for a month supply, I have to pay for my scripts upfront and bcbs reimburses me. Since generic is available do they generally only cover that price or can I expect them to pay 1850 for the real deal? I've been OOP for all my IF treatments and I thought the crazy bills were behind me! TIA.

Re: Generic Lovenox Ins. ?

  • It depends on your insurance.  With a lot if the prescribing doctors says it must be filled with the name brand they will pay for it.   You'll have to call them an ask for sure.

  • My insurance uses a rx delivery system that delivers these specialty rx's to your door.  I was using the Lovenox and then the company delivered me the generic w/o letting me know.  I did try the generic for a month and didnt really like it.  I could tell a difference in the size of the needle, the size of the syringe and the medicine hurt more going in. This time around I called the company to find out what the cost difference was for me (Lovenox $40/mth, generic $10/mth copay) and told her I didnt want the generic.  She responded with, we don't supply that generic anymore and I didnt really think to ask why at the time.  I'm assuming they got some feedback that no one liked it and prefered the Lovenox.
  • I agree with what the pp's said.  You can call your ins. company and ask them how much they will cover.

Good luck!  Fingers crossed for you!
