Have to have betas and progesterone checked

At my first OB visit yesterday, my doctor estimated that I was about eight weeks along judging by the size of my uterus.  I had an ultrasound later in the day, which put me at 5 w 6 d (which is closer to what I thought anyway), and they said it looked like it was too early for a heartbeat.  They also did a blood panel and the nurse called me later in the day and said my betas were around 19,000 and my progesterone was 14, and they would like to see it above 15.  Anyway, I have to go back tomorrow and Friday for more blood work, and next week for another u/s.  I'm trying not to worry about it too much, but the nurse seemed concerned so of course I am.  I don't really have a question, but words of reassurance/personal experiences are much appreciated!
I don't know what's up with my siggy and I am too lazy to figure it out.

  • It doesn't sound to me like anything will be wrong. If you're close to what you thought, then great (maybe your ute is just a little big for some reason). 5w6d can be too early for a HB -- that's totally normal. And progesterone at 14 is not anything to freak out about. I think they typically want it at 9 or more to maintain a pregnancy, so your doc is probably just being extra cautious. It SHOULD get higher than 14 eventually -- at worst, they'll put you on some supplemental progesterone. My prog at 4 weeks was 11 -- and that was WITH prog supplements :) It went up eventually (and quickly), and everything was fine.

  • I'm sure you'll be ok - 5w6d is early for a hb. Maybe your uterus is measuring large from being pregnant before. Maybe you just have a big uterus!

    GL and keep us posted.

  • At 5w3d my beta was 6,000 and progesterone was at 10 and I did not even have an u/s at the point because it is too early to see the h/b.  I was put on progesterone supplements and have no problems so far.  At my first u/s at 6w5d we saw the heartbeat, which was in the normal range.  I have two other u/s and everything is right on track.

     Good luck!!

  • Are they putting you on Progesterone suppliments? I would ask about it.

I think that will be the next step if the numbers don't look good after tomorrow.  Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and encouraging words, it really does help.
