I was just wondering how far along you have to be before you can find out the gender. I always thought it was at 20 weeks but I have a friend who found out she's having a boy and she found out at 16/17 weeks. I'm not trying to rain on her parade or anything, I'm just a little confused.
Re: finding out the gender
Yeah, as of right now, I have to wait until 25 weeks. As the girls said though, it's up to the practice. Typically an anatomy scan of all of the organs is done between 18 and 22 weeks, the sex can usually be determined during that scan. It can be done a few weeks earlier using ultrasound. The "norm" is 18 - 22 weeks, but, physically, it CAN be done earlier. The "early" tests though, a lot of people say to not trust it 100%. Although, I guess you don't really know with 100% certainty until the baby is born anyway.

At my practice they like you wait until the 20 week mark for the u/s which is when they'll tell you the gender. I had mine at 19w3d since we were going out of town and the u/s tech and doctor determined the gender without telling us.
My friend who is PG now wanted to find out the sex so her doctor tried to see on an u/s at 17 weeks, but he couldn't tell so she had to wait for her anatomy scan a few weeks later.
Ahhh ok it all makes sense now. Thanks ladies!
