Babies: 0 - 3 Months

if you gained 40+ lbs during pregnancy...

How much have you lost so far?  I know that it takes time, but I'm getting frustrated.  DD will be 1 month this week.  I lost 15 lbs so far, but my weight has stayed the same for the past 2 weeks.  I walk for 30 minutes- 1 hour almost every night, and I've been doing an exercise video (half hour, interval training) about 3 times/week for the past 2 weeks.  My belly has gotten smaller but the weight isn't coming off?  I'm trying not to be impatient but I have a bridesmaid dress to wear in December and I'm getting nervous about it!  Someone please bring me back to earth and/or share any weight loss suggestions?

Re: if you gained 40+ lbs during pregnancy...

  • I gained 55-60 lbs with both of my pregnancies. With DD, I lost 20lbs the 1st week. The next 20 took about 3 more months & I was back to my pp weight by 7 months.

    So far, I've lost 20-25.

Are you nursing? I think that's what really helped me. Plus, I have to chase a toddler around now!

  • I gained 49lbs and I've lost 27. I haven't lost any the past couple weeks though. I'm starting to keep track of what I eat. I'm not dieting because I'm bfing but eventually I'll probably start cutting small amounts of calories. I have only walked. I'm short so it has had a BAD impact. :( I have not exercised at all because I had a c-section and I haven't been cleared by my doctor. There are a bunch of great videos for sale on Amazon. Even ones that incorporate your baby. just search post partum exercise video.

  • I guess nursing is what helped me. I did exactly what you are doing - walking, exercise DVDs when I can. I also have an LO who doesn't like to be put down during the day, so I often don't have time to sit down and eat. And I try to eat as healthy (as in, a wide variety of good food, not "low-fat" or anything) as possible. I've noticed that junk food upsets LO's tummy anyway, so I have extra incentive to get all my fruits and veggies in.

  • I gained 51 lbs.  I have lost 30 so far, but I haven't started exercising yet.  I do get out a lot and eat a bit better.  I only breastfed for 2 weeks until I had to stop.

  • Gained 45, lost 35 so far, I have not really done much - I think it's due to BFing mostly!  Also, I was very swollen at the end of my pregnancy so I lost a lot of water weight too.

I do have 30 more lbs to lose once I get to my pp weight and I think it will be much harder to lose than the pregnancy weight.

  • I gained 55 lbs.

I lost 25 lbs within the first 3 weeks.

Then I lost nothing up to 7 weeks pp.

Last week I lost 1 1/2 lbs. I finally decided that I needed to start eating healthier.

With DD1, I also gained 55 lbs, and it took me 5 months to lose all the weight. I expect it will take me at least as long this time.

  • I gained 60lbs.  My DD is 2 months & 2 weeks old.  I have lost 33lbs so far with daily walks & breastfeeding.  My 1st 20lbs disappeared fast but now its slower to come off.

  • I gained 45lbs with DS. I was down about 30lbs by 4 months PP, then another 10 once I weaned at 5 months. Then at 9 months PP with no change in exercise or eating habits my body started morphing back to what it was pre-pregnancy. I lost 10lbs in 2 months. Then I got pregnant - I like to pretend that I would have lost more and that it'll happen this time around.

  • I gained 44 lbs and have lost all but 6 lbs.  It took about 4 weeks to loose it and I've hit a plateau.  I walk 3 or 4 days a week, but I also breastfeed exclusively.  I'm pretty sure that without BFing, I wouldn't have lost much at all.

  • I've gained 40+ with all 3 pregnancies and with my first two it took me 7+ months to get to my old weight and/or size.

I'm 4w pp today and I've lost 25lbs of the 42lbs that I gained but I haven't lost anything in 2 weeks. That's about how it goes for me, though. I lose a big chunk in the first week or two and then it just stands still until I'm able to start "dieting"/working out and then it's still super hard to get it off. I nurse and it's like my body is just hanging on to every ounce for dear like.

Don't be too discouraged. I've learned over time that it's very lucky women who get to have the weight melt off. Most women it takes longer and it takes work, whether bfing or not.

If it makes you feel better, I stood up in my bff's wedding 4w pp after my first, where I gained 50lbs. I didn't look my best by any means, but I just kept looking at my daughter and reminding myself that I looked that way for such a precious gift given to me and my husband. Also, that people were going to be looking at the bride and not me :)

  • I gained 45, lost 15 after delivery and then the scale didnt budge for weeks! I am BFing but that isnt the magic weight loss answer for me that it is for others. I started weight watchers for nursing moms a week and a half ago and also resumed exercising and I am down 3.5 lbs. Gives me hope!

  • I gained 44 lbs.  I have lost 25 so far.  I haven't been released to exercies yet due to my c-section.  I am EBF, so I hope this helps, and as soon as I get the OK I will start my workouts again.

  • I gained 40 pounds... after birth 20 came off the first month... but the past 1 1/2 months I've stayed the same.  I'm not trying too hard yet to get it off, but plan to start working out more this week if possible.

it takes time.. your body might need a little more time! I thought I remembered hearing to let your body heal a bit more before really starting to work out hard - giving yourself up to 6 weeks after birth before starting up.

  • I had dd 3 months ago. I gained 75lbs while pregnant and have lost 40 so far. I feel I have so far to go still. It's daunting. I am hoping it drops quick, I hate being fat. I have cut out all condiments except mustard pretty much. No ranc, no mayo, no dipping sauces or anything. Just eat healthy. I dont even buy cookies anymore or chips. Only fruits and veggies. It takes willpower but it isn't gonna just come off over night.

  • I gained about 50 lbs.  I lost about 30 right away so I think it was mostly water weight.  For about 5-6 weeks I didn't lose anything, but when I got on the scale today I think I am down about another 6-8.  The only thing different between the last time I weighed myself and when I started losing weight is that I went on a few walks and I ran out of cookies Embarrassed
  • I gained 65 lbs. I lost 40 within 2 weeks by doing nothing. I think it was a lot of water. The last 25 have been much harder to lose. I lost 48 so far, but the last 8 have taken me awhile. I try to eat healthy and am breastfeeding/supplementing. I try to take walks with the babies but it is hard to get out of the house.
  • I've lost the 40lbs I put on during pregnancy. I think BFing has been the main reason for losing the weight so fast. I haven't been dieting (due to the BFing) and only go on 20 minutes walks with DD maybe 3 times a week.
  • I don't have a scale so I'm not sure... I gained 55 lb with my first and 49 lb this time.  I just buttoned my "fat jeans" the other day so I know I lost some!  With my first, I lost 40 lb at my 6 wk visit and had lost it all in less than 3 months.
