Hey Ladies,
Yesterday, in an act of desperation (long story) I resorted to putting a pillow from my bed in DS's crib to get him to stay in it without waking up screaming the instant I laid him down. It totally worked. I removed it after a couple hours, before going to bed for the night.
But anyway, I was wondering if there are safety guidelines for this. We never used a pillow in his crib as an infant, but I'd like to know when it's okay to do so. Any experience with this?
Re: Pillows
I am not sure about the proper reocommendations. A friend of mine started using one for her DS when he was around 18 months, I think. It was when he started sleeping in his toddler bed.
We don't have one in Aidan's crib, but if he is napping in our bed with us, he uses one.
well guidelines/recommendations are to not have ANYTHING in a crib...ever...
but... we have always cheated. Avery had a few loveys in her crib when she was that age.
If he's going to need/use a pillow - I recommend getting a toddler/small pillow instead of a full size one - and make sure it's not too fluffy - a thin flat one would probably be best.
Thanks Sarah! That's the thing, I don't think he really "needs" it. He's been sick the past week, in our bed mostly and I think he needed to think he was still with us with us so I used my pillow to trick him. The lovey wasn't helping at all. I hope we won't have to use it again but if we do I'll find a toddler one.
and the risk of SIDS is like slim to none now that he's over a year old. He could still suffocate - but more than likely he would wake up and move if he couldn't breathe.
(and Avery is ~2 now and she has THREE full size pillows and a comforter on her full size bed)
