Anyone else struggle to go back to sleep

After LO eats?

I'm noticing that it is taking me longer and longer to get bak to sleep after feeding LO. Changing, feeding, holding her upright for about 20 minutes due to reflux, and getting her back in her bassinet situated takes about 45 minutes. However, it takes me an additional 30-45 minutes to go back to sleep - which only gives me about 1.5-2 hours of "sleep" before she is up again wanting to eat.

If you had this problem what did you do to help yourself get to sleep easier/ sooner?

  • I definitely do...I was up for 1.5 hrs after putting her back down last night...sigh.

  • Like the PP said, if you're taking naps during the day, try cutting them out. Its hard at first, but you'll sleep better at night.

Is Kate's reflux getting any better - any hope of not having to hold her upright for so long? I can imagine how much more draining that must make night feedings.

I don't nap during the day. Her reflux is not any better - we see the doctor again this week.
  • I put on a nature documentary - sounds bizarre but keeps my mind from racing and the sounds knock me out.  I used to just not sleep between feedings 1 and 2 when it was the worst and fwiw - i don't do caffeine.  yoga has helped too.

  • Yes, I have/had this problem big time.

Call your Dr. and ask if there's anything you can take to help you sleep.

Is there someone who can stay over once a week and do the nighttime feedings? My Dr. wrote me a prescription for Ambien and either my MIL or my mom will stay over once a week so we can go to bed. I just pump before I take it and pump again afterwards and dump it. We do a formula/breastmilk feeding combo.

  • I have the same problem. when I first brought LO home I would fall asleep as soon as my head hit the pillow. Now im back to my old habbits. I know this is probly TMI but i've been waking my husband up when I cant sleep and getting a little..... If you know what I mean.. Relaxes me,,, what can I say!!! LOL
  • keep my eyes closed while nursing because it keeps me drowsy.. I only have an hour to spare from when I put him down after eating. AND I am notorious for having sleep issues so this has not been fun at all.

  • I had this  problem w/ DS.... after a few weeks of consistently getting no more than 3-4 hours sleep a night on a good night my body finally figured it out.  Waiting for that to happen sucked tho! I think DS was around 2 months old when I finally started going right back to sleep. Staying in bed helped, also just turning on a TV for light helped because I wasn't waking myself up as abruptly as using my lamp w/ the bright light would.

For the reflux have you looked into the Fisher Price Rock N Play? It keeps my twins at the right angle so they can go right back down after feeds w/o reflux issues. It was honestly the best $100 I spent! (I bought 2 :) )

  • I have the same problem  I put my ipod in 1 ear and listen to audio books--knocks me out every time.  I'm currently listening to some cheesy murder mystery.
